Most modern screwdrivers sold in stores are already equipped with a backlight that turns on automatically with the tool. But what if there is no such function in your screwdriver? Of course, you can make it yourself, especially since you can do it literally in 10 minutes from improvised parts.
To make the backlight we need:
- Simple graphite pencil.
- A small motor from a DVD, a toy or a trimmer.
- Office gum.
- LED, you can drop out of a flashlight or lamp.
- Hot glue and soldering iron
Backlight assembly
First of all, you need to saw off a small part from the pencil, which will act as a housing for the LED.
Then we clamp the pencil in a vice and drill the inside, the drill can be taken along the diameter of the graphite rod. But if you manage to remove the core without drilling, it’s also good, it happens that they come out easily if you put the pencil on the core against something hard and push it. The wires from the LED will be passed into this hole.
Next, take the motor and thread the wires into the hole in the pencil. Wires should be more authentic, if they are short then additional need to be soldered.
Soldered wires are soldered to the legs of the LED, which does not matter where to solder, since the motor will generate an alternating voltage. By the way, the motor in this design acts as a voltage generator.
We coat the base of the pencil with hot-melt adhesive and thread the wires into the hole, we put an LED on it,
Next, take a motor and put a plastic pulley on it. Typically, toy motors have one.
Now install the entire structure on a screwdriver. To do this, apply hot melt glue to the top of the screwdriver, the motor pulley should look out onto the moving part of the cartridge, then glue it and wait until the glue cools down.
Then we do the same with the LED, but now at the bottom near the button. We apply hot-melt glue and glue the workpiece in its place.
Now it remains only to connect the motor to the cartridge, for this you will need the usual clerical gum.We dress it on a pulley, and the other part on a movable cartridge, it turned out something like a belt drive.
Now, when the screwdriver is turned on, the cartridge starts to spin, thereby driving the motor, the current will start to be generated and the LED will light up.
It shines brightly enough, enough to illuminate the work area with lighting deficiencies. The main thing is to take a good and bright LED, so it is recommended to remove it from a flashlight or lighting lamp.
That's all, I advise you to collect this homemadebye everyone!
