Do-it-yourself hammer of Torah

Hello to all lovers homemade. As you know, a sledgehammer is a very necessary tool, it can hammer massive cola, break stones, bricks and much more. In this article I will talk about how to make a sledgehammer do it yourself, the materials for which are quite simple and are likely to be found in each the garage or workshop. This homemade product, or as it can be called, the hammer of Thor, will not be used as a permanent tool, its manufacture is based solely on creativity. In any case, if you need a working sledgehammer, all the steps described below will help you in its assembly.

Before reading the article, I suggest watching a video with a detailed assembly process of this homemade product, as well as its testing.

As well as the process of weighting the hammer with lead.

In order to make a hammer of Thor with your own hands, you will need:
* Armature with a diameter of 12 mm
* Welding machine, welding protective mask, electrodes
* Angle grinder with cutting disc
* Lead batteries
* Horn
* Burner
* Wooden handle
* Two corners
* Vise
* Metal cutting machine
* Metal slag brush

That's all you need to build a sledgehammer with your own hands.

Step one.
The first thing you need to do is mount for the sledgehammer, it will be attached to the handle of wood. From the metal corners we make a profile pipe, clamp the corner into a vice and use the angle grinder to cut off the unnecessary part.

We do the same with the second corner.

Attention, when working with an angle grinder, be extremely careful, and also do not forget about safety measures, wear protective glasses and gloves.

Step Two
Now we weld two corners to each other, holding them in a vice, thereby obtaining a profile pipe of the required size.

We weld parts strictly in a protective welding mask and gaiters.
After the parts are welded, we remove the slag formed in the process, this is done using a metal brush and, if necessary, tapping the hammer.

Step Three
Since the mass of the sledgehammer should be solid, namely six kilograms, then its dimensions should be rather big. The main part will consist of reinforcement with a diameter of 12 mm. The dimensions of the sledgehammer were taken from the factory, but here you can experiment, and also choose depending on the goals that you will assign to it. On a slightly earlier welded profile, we make three points with a welding machine, so that the first reinforcement has something to rest against.

Then, on a metal cutting machine, we saw reinforcing bars of a given length, and their number is selected depending on the dimensions of the sledgehammer. Since we have a profile in the middle part, the length of the reinforcing bars there will be less, this must be taken into account.

When working with a cutting machine, be careful and do not forget about safety glasses for your own safety.

Step Four
We clamp the profile in a vice, apply a segment of reinforcement to it strictly in the middle and fasten the parts with tacks, then completely weld the joint.

After that, we perform similar actions with the remaining segments of the reinforcement, in the process do not forget to remove the slag from the weld.

In the middle part we weld the shorter segments, they are first attached to the profile, and then to the adjacent reinforcement.

Having spent four meters of reinforcement, you get such a detail, consider a finished hammer.

Step Five
From one end we tightly weld the fittings, we try to do this most accurately.
The plane of the sledgehammer on this side is leveled with an angle grinder, it is not worth bringing it to shine. It should be something similar, as in the photo.

And on the back there is a place for pouring lead, which to some extent will increase the weight of the hammer.

Step Six
Now we need to make a homemade hammer heavier, and first we check it for leaks, pour ordinary water into the holes and thereby find out the volume needed to completely “fill” the sledgehammer.

Lead can be obtained from lead batteries, whether it is a motorcycle, automobile, or from an uninterruptible PC.

First, break the case to get to the lead plates.

At this stage, electrolyte may spill out of the battery case, so I advise you to wear gloves and keep your face away so as not to get burns. After which we tap the lead plates extracted from the battery and put into the crucible, here also a simple can of coffee can do. We melt the lead with a burner and pour the sledgehammers into the holes between the reinforcing bars until they are completely filled.

Since lead from the batteries was scarce, I had to look for stocks, which were just enough for weighting.

Seventh step.
We heat the sledgehammer with holes already filled with lead and weld the second side, from which molten metal was poured.

Next, we install a wooden handle and drive a wedge, we also do this at the edges, if there are gaps.

Step Eight.
So the time has come to test the hammer of Thor. Its weight turned out to be approximately similar to the factory sledgehammer, about 6 kg. As you can see in the photo, a homemade hammer copes with its tasks perfectly, which means that the time spent on its manufacture is worth it.

With this sledgehammer you can do everything, as they say: "if something does not work out with a hammer, take a bigger hammer."

That's all for me, thank you all for your attention, see you soon.
