Miniature refrigerator from an old fire extinguisher

If you have an old empty fire extinguisher lying around, do not rush to throw it away, you can make it excellent, stylish from it. Such homemade You will surprise your friends and relatives. Homemade work has a deep meaning, a fire extinguisher is needed to extinguish a fire, only with it we will extinguish not the fire, but the heat inside us. Here you can chill drinks in the summer and enjoy them in hot weather.

It is done quite simply, here the Peltier element is used. It is so electronic a part that, when energized, is cooled on one side and heated on the other. You can buy a Peltier element inexpensively in China, and quite a lot of them have already been brought to us. You can feed an element from a 12V power supply or other voltage, depending on the type. This means that you can power such a refrigerator from a car battery, which will allow you to take the refrigerator with you to nature and so on. So, we will consider in more detail how to assemble such a homemade product.

Materials and tools used by the author:

Material List:
- ;
- a radiator from a computer with a fan;
- old fire extinguisher;
- window hinges with screws and nuts;
- plywood;
- power supply or battery;
- wires;
- fiberglass or other insulator;
- glue;
- resistors.

Tool List:
- grinder or drill;
- drill;
- clamps;
- a jigsaw.

Refrigerator manufacturing process:

Step one. Empty the fire extinguisher
First, empty the fire extinguisher if there is anything left in it by pulling the trigger. Next, turn off the tap and drain the remaining. Subsequently, the fire extinguisher must be washed with warm water. The inner part does not have to be perfectly shiny and clean, as it will still be finished with insulating material.

Step Two Cut the bottom
We clamp the fire extinguisher with a clamp or in a vice upside down. Now with the help of a grinder or drill, we cut out a circle, that is, we cut off the bottom. Thereafter, a cooling radiator will be installed. This can be quite difficult to do, as fire extinguishers often have rather thick steel at the bottom.

Step Three Cut out the door
Now we need to cut the door, for this, again lock the fire extinguisher in a horizontal position and draw a future door with a marker. Cut a rectangle using a grinder or drill.

Step Four We hang the door
To curtain the door, you will need two hinges. We drill holes in the right places and fasten the door.The author decided to use rivets. If you do not have a rivet gun, then you can screw them with screws and nuts.
Also invent and install a locking mechanism. Since the door must be closed during transport and use.

Step Five Insulation material
Insulate your refrigerator so that it does not lose its cold. You can use various materials for this. Glass wool is most often used, but be careful when handling it, since inhaling glass microparticles is very harmful to health. In addition, there are a huge variety of different foam materials that are also great for insulation. In addition to the inside, we also glue the door. We use good glue, which is not afraid of dampness.

Step Six Interior decoration
The insulation layer must be covered with a protective layer on top. For these purposes, the author decided to use fabric. We cut it into the necessary pieces and glue over the insulator. The author used hot glue as glue, in his opinion, it is excellent for such purposes.

Seventh step. Electronics
A Peltier element is used as a cooling element; it must be installed on a radiator from a computer using thermal grease. Set the cold side up. To understand where the side is, apply voltage to the part and touch with your hands. In addition, a fan is installed on the radiator, which will remove excess heat. The author's Peltier element runs on 6V, and the 12V fan, the author used 9V as a power source. In order for the Peltier element not to burn out from high voltage, it must be connected through resistors.

On the cold side, the radiator is installed to the refrigerator, and on the hot side, where the fan is installed, down. At the bottom, a plywood case is made to hide the radiator. Do not forget to make ventilation holes in the housing. Keep in mind that the fan must be able to blow hot air from the bottom of the refrigerator. Some time after switching on, the air temperature inside the refrigerator should decrease.

That's all, the fridge is ready! I hope you enjoyed the project, and you found something new for yourself. Good luck and inspiration in the manufacture, do not forget to share your best practices with us! Express your opinions about this homemade product.

We hang the door
A curtain is to hide behind a hanged piece of fabric. And the doors on thehang up.
The author's Peltier element runs on 6V, and the 12V fan, the author used 9V as a power source. In order for the Peltier element not to burn out from high voltage, it must be connected through resistors.
Jamb on the jamb! By reference, the Peltier element is TEC1-12705, the most common. And he is on 12V! Not only are the capabilities of the cooler used by a quarter, but also in addition to that, a third of the power is dissipated by the resistors.
