Hello everyone, I bring to your attention a very simple way to amplify a 3G signal several times. Homemade very simple, you don’t have to solder, draw anything, you won’t even need wires and electronic accessories.
It all started with the fact that not far from us they launched the Internet 3G, or rather HSPA +. But, despite the fact that our farm is located only 3 km from the tower, the signal was not caught in any way, since the village is in a lowland. I hung the modem high on a birch, at least 15 meters from the ground, but there were no results, the signal slipped only occasionally.
Today I began to look for solutions to this problem. The first thing I did was Kharchenko’s antenna, no matter how I twisted it or how I was not smart, it absolutely did not help me. He began to look for a signal, walking around the house, climbed into the barn, into the attic, even into the house, but to no avail. I have a building nearby, a balcony with a metal fence. I climbed on it, began to look for a signal there. So, in this fence there are round holes, as soon as I installed the modem vertically in this hole, a signal appeared immediately and the speed was as much as 7 Mbps. At first I thought it was an accident. I checked it several times, as soon as you put the modem in the hole, a signal immediately appears, you remove it, there is no signal. Moreover, if the modem is upright, the speed is 2 times higher than with horizontal installation. I have a modem.
Then I conducted another experiment, I had an old aluminum basin lying around, I tried to use it as a reflector, that is, by the principle of a satellite dish. I had the modem opposite the bottom, but I did not catch the signal. I decided to repeat the experiment with the hole, cut it out at the bottom of the basin and then installed the modem in the center, and then again, the modem began to receive a signal! And I went with this basin in the territory and he almost everywhere accepted the Internet. I decided to make an antenna based on this basin. In principle, you can use just a sheet of steel, this should also work. How exactly, it works, I don’t know. But it is likely that the signal propagates through the plate and then focuses in the center on the modem, according to the principle of a horn. I made an experimental version of the antenna and so far I'm not complaining. Then I'll try with a larger reflector.
Materials and tools that I needed:
For the manufacture of the antenna itself - a basin, a piece of sheet steel or something similar, I used an aluminum basin.
For the manufacture of the mast - a steel pipe, a piece of a steel plate, screws with nuts and washers.but you can just nail the antenna to a tree or house.
As a modem, a modem / router.
Tool List:
- grinder;
- hammer;
- bit;
- welding;
- drill.
Antenna manufacturing process:
Step one. Let's start with the antenna
An antenna is a piece of metal in the center of which you need to make a hole for your modem. The modem should be located vertically, with my modem, the best results have been achieved. If you position the modem horizontally, it will also work, but the speed is two, or even three times less.
I first cut a circle in the basin with a chisel, and then finally cut it out with a grinder.
Step Two Mounting bracket
I decided to make an antenna on the mast so that I could look for a signal and raise the antenna above the house. But its manufacture is not necessary, you can fix the antenna directly on the house, pole and so on. He made the bracket out of a steel plate, screwed it with screws and nuts to the basin. Well, then the mast was welded to this plate, it is from a steel pipe.
Step Three Install modem
To fix the modem in the center, I found a plastic bucket, it is tightly pressed into the hole and will not fall out by itself. Then he cut off the bottom of the bottle and installed a modem in it, but the bottom is inserted into a plastic bucket. The modem is installed as it should and is protected from water. It remains only to bring the power cables, the modem is charging via USB. I spent a two-wire wire, applied 5V to the modem, the charge is on, everything is fine.
Step Four Testing
It's time to test, my modem has a router function, that is, it distributes Wi-FI, and quite far, it’s calmly caught up to 150 meters through the air. He raised the antenna above the house and turned it onto the tower. Previously, nothing was caught here, now the modem easily saw 3G coverage. My speed easily goes to 3 Mbit / s, and before that I was sitting on the wretched EDGE, which gives out no more than 0.17 Mbit / s.
Of course, the tower’s potential is at least 7 Mbps, so the antenna does not work at full power. Probably the area of the basin is small. In general, I am satisfied, there is room for development. Money spent "0" cents, the problem is solved.
If you have thoughts on how and why this works, write in the comments. That's all for me, good luck and creative inspiration. If you make yourself such an antenna, be sure to write about the results!
