If you push the axis forward (as you did, as far as I understand), then the “reverse blows” from the wheels will increase, and the steering wheel will become more difficult. If the axis is shifted back, then the steering wheel rotation will again be much more difficult, because the wheels will have to be “shifted to the side” when turning.
Imagine a steering wheel turning in place:
Only if the location of the hinge falls into the center of the controlled axis, the wheels simply roll when turning (“outer” - forward, “inner” - back. )).
If the axis is moved forward or backward, then the wheels will also have to "row sideways".
In motion, all of these points change slightly:
With the "front axle", the "inner" wheel when turning will simply travel a shorter distance than the "outer" one.
But if the axle is behind, this is not possible! After all, both wheels HAVE ALREADY PASSED this equal distance, and now you have to "stupidly" stupidly shift to the side, raking it sideways with the ground!
