To make a casket, you need to choose a suitable block of wood from a dry, deciduous deciduous tree: birch, linden or aspen. The length of the block should be approximately two times its thickness. Be sure to cut the slices with sandpaper to make them smooth.
Then the bark is cut along the entire block to the very wood and carefully, so as not to tear, they are separated from it (Fig. A).
The bark must be removed with the forehead, otherwise the box will be fragile. After removing the bark, saw off the log from both ends in a mug. In the figure, the places of the saw are indicated by a dotted line. The chump itself is not needed, it can come in handy for others crafts from natural materials.
From the circles, carefully sawing them along the dashed lines, they prepare the side walls of the box and the lid. In the lower part of the side walls, grooves are selected (Fig. B), in which the bottom of the casket is attached - plywood 3-5 mm thick, the length and width of which correspond to the dimensions of the remaining blanks. The bark is cut into lobar strips and adjusted to fit the size of the box and the lid of the casket (Fig. C).
All parts of the box are glued with carpentry glue. For rigidity of the front and rear parts of the lid, it is good to glue narrow strips to their edges (on the inside of the box). The same strips can be glued to the upper sides of the box (Fig. D). The lid of the box is mounted on small hinges, hinges, purchased at the store. You can make them yourself from tin or from dense matter. They are attached to the side circles, cut from the block.
In order to give the box additional beauty and grace, the inner surfaces can be pasted over with plain or colored fabric, and the outer ones can be covered with light varnish.
