Every self-respecting owner has a construction roulette. Its main purpose is known. And what are her hidden abilities? This article will focus on various tricks that can be done with ordinary roulette.
1. Mobile hitch
Beginners who are working with roulette for the first time may think that the rolling hook at the end of the roulette is negligent manufacturer. Is it possible to carry out some measurements if some parts are not fixed properly? However, an experienced specialist knows that a moving hitch is an everyday necessity.
Measurements using roulette are carried out in two ways: from the subject, or with the capture of the subject. In the first case, it is a zero reference point.
In the second - capturing an object, the hook extends in thickness: thus, the mark "zero" coincides with the edge of the object.
2. Measurements in openings and corners
When measuring space with corners, it’s hard enough to squeeze the tape into a corner to make an accurate calculation. In this case, the case is used as an extension of roulette.
Case size is indicated on each model. This figure must be added to the readings of the tape, and then we get the correct measurement of the opening.
You can also use masking tape. Cut off a piece from it and take a couple of measurements on it in opposite directions.
For marking, it is better to put checkmarks rather than dashes - with the help of them a more accurate result is obtained. After making two measurements, add up the numbers: we get the required length.
3. Halving numbers
Take the length of the tape measure. For example, 116 cm. We turn off the tape, combining the zero mark with it. Right at the place of the fold of the tape, the desired result will be: in this case, 58 cm.
This little trick can come in handy when you need to make an urgent calculation in half.
4. The hole on the roulette hook.
Some wonder: why is it needed at all? This hole can catch on a nail or a screw.
The hook will hold firmly, and the tape measure can be easily maneuvered: twist, rotate. This is especially convenient when measuring long distances. The error is small, of course, will be.But not more than 1-2 mm, since the center of the screw will almost coincide with the zero point.
Even with the hole on the hook it’s convenient to draw circles.
5. Roulette as a marking tool
Will have to modify it a bit. For example, fasten the compass. You can come up with other tricks, whether it is a removable or non-removable option.
Having fixed the drawing tool on the tape measure, you can make marks and draw circles of any diameter.
6. Roulette as a notebook for notes
By gluing the masking tape on the back of the tape measure, we get a comfortable recording surface. It is very convenient to use.
In the absence of paint brushes, you can slightly sand off the body, making it velvety to the touch. After that, the surface will be ready. You can write on it with a pencil and easily erase notes with an ordinary eraser.
7. Hooks
You can make them using the needle file. They are convenient to make marks on drywall and surfaces that are easily scratched.
8. Dividing the workpiece into several parts
For example, a workpiece needs to be divided into three parts. We measure the width and make mathematical calculations: divide by three.
You can do without calculations at all. Choose the closest number on the tape measure, greater than the width of the workpiece, but a multiple of three. Let it be 300 mm.
300 = 3 x 100
We make equal marks of 100 mm. Surprisingly, they will coincide with marks produced in a mathematical way.
Another example. The blank must be divided into 4 equal parts. Take a multiple of 4: for example, 400 mm. It is desirable that the number is round for ease of division.
400 = 4 x 100
We mark on the dividing blank of 100 mm.
Conclusion
So with the help of seemingly simple tricks, you can make an indispensable multifunctional tool from roulette. It’s worth using these tricks in practice and see how useful a regular item can be.
