Self-extractor or winch for any car



Snow and dirt are approaching, which means you need to think about different ways to save a car from a trap. Of course, the winch will be the most faithful assistant in this matter, it will allow you to pull out car from almost any dirt and snow drifts. Of course, such devices are installed mainly on SUVs, but thanks to the enthusiasm of the masters, now you can equip any car with a winch, and such a winch can be done in literally an hour. The device is mounted on a wheel in a couple of seconds without wrenches and other tools and is also easily removable. Materials and tools used by the author:

Material List:
- a rim from a trailer, an Ant motorcycle or the like;
- strong rope;
- strong steel stake (will serve as an anchor);
- paint;

Manufacturing process homemade:

Step one. Prepare the disk
We select a disk of suitable diameter, the author’s disk is slightly smaller than the diameter of his car wheel. In general, a car disk can also be adapted for such purposes. All we need to do is weld the hooks to the disk, and here it all depends on the design of the disk. If it is a steel disk with holes, you will succeed, but if it is cast, then you will have to tinker.

We attach the disk to the car and make marks in the places where the hooks will be installed.




Step Two Production and installation of hooks
Round hooks will serve as hooks, the author used a rod from old paint rollers as material. Cut off the necessary pieces and bend. The more hooks, the more reliable the design will be mounted on the wheel. But keep in mind that if the hooks are welded crookedly, they can begin to bend under load or even come off. Constantly apply the product to the car’s disk and see if we are doing everything right.













Step Three Finishing touches and tests
At the end, we will paint the disk so that it looks good and does not smear rust on our hands. Going to the test, the author chose a suitable off-road. That turned out to be a hill with a clay road, which was washed away by rain. The coating turned out to be very slippery, clay clogs the tread and the machine cannot move.





We install our self-extractor on a car disk. Of course, the puller needs to be installed on the drive wheel, the author has a front wheel.Next, insert the rope into the hole in the disk and tie a knot, wind the rope, the author has 20 m of it. But why catch on the rope? It's very simple, we need a steel stake, which we hammer into the ground with a sledgehammer and tie a rope to it.

That's all you can experience. The author starts off without problems and easily goes up the hill even under such terrible conditions.
The problem can only arise if the second wheel freezes or slips heavily, then the differential will prevent us from pulling the car out of the trap. But this is rare and in most cases this winch will save. For the winch to work better, the diameter of the self-extractor disc should be as small as possible.

I have a limited-slip differential (mechanical) in my car. Its essence is that the lock only works if one wheel has completely stopped! .. And what ??? In 70-80 percent of cases when I could not move on a strong ice, I hear a click of the trigger, a weak jerk of the car ... and after that it "polished" already with two wheels!)))) ...
