A meat grinder is a necessary thing in the kitchen, but with long-term use, the efficiency of its work gradually decreases, and it is becoming more and more difficult to “scroll” the meat through it. This happens because the surface of the blade of her knife and lattice, through the openings of which the ready-made stuffing, grind off. As a result, a gap forms between them, and ideally they should fit snugly against each other.
Consider how you can fix this situation without resorting to any devices.
In order to sharpen the cutting edges of a meat grinder knife and level the surface of the grill, you will need:
1. three small sheets of sandpaper with diameters of abrasive grains corresponding to the markings P120, P150 and P180;
2. any flat object having the most even surface, for example, ceramic tiles;
3. a vessel with water.
Sharpen and smooth the surface of the meat grinder as follows:
Knife sharpening
1. Lay a sheet of sandpaper P120 on the surface of the tile and moisten it with plenty of water.
2. The cutting surface of the meat grinder knife is pressed flat against the sandpaper.
3. In a circular motion drive the knife along the surface of the sandpaper.
4. Monitor the state of the surface of the knife during operation.
5. The result is a smooth, shiny surface of the meat grinder knife, on which, due to the large diameter of the sand paper grains, small scratches are present.
6. Likewise, the surface of the meat grinder’s knife is continued to be ground on sandpaper sheets marked P150 and P180. This is necessary in order to rid it of scratches and make it as smooth as possible.
Grill surface leveling
The surface of the grill of the meat grinder must be processed with sandpaper not only so that it fits snugly on the cutting side of the knife, but also in order to make the edges of its holes sharper, which is very important for the effective operation of the meat grinder. They process it in the same way as the surface of a knife:
1. Firmly press the surface of sandpaper P120 to the surface of the sandpaper moistened with water.
2. Grind the surface of the grating by sweeping it with emery in circular motions in different directions.
3. In the process of grinding control the condition of its surface.
4. Having leveled the surface of the grate with sandpaper P120, finish its grinding with sandpaper with grit P150 and P180.
In order for the grate to be inserted into the meat grinder on either side, it is recommended to grind both of its surfaces in this way.
The surface of the knife and grill of the meat grinder after sharpening sandpaper have smooth cutting surfaces adjacent to each other without the slightest clearance.
A meat grinder knife sharpened in this way will, in fact, cut the meat, and not reel it on itself. However, if the surface of it or the lattice has deep scratches and potholes, then its sandpaper will not cope with sharpening, in which case you will have to resort to using a grindstone or a special machine.
