In this article, Igor, the author of the YouTube channel Igor Beletsky, will tell you about the process of creating a magnetohydrodynamic engine in home conditions do it yourself. This section is entertaining physics. Such models must be made and shown at school in physics lessons. Zinc and copper sheet can be purchased on the radio market, in the same place and neodymium magnets.
Materials
- Copper sheet
- Sheet zinc
- A box of CD discs, or a suitable cylindrical shape
- Neodymium magnets
- Electrolyte
- Plastic bottle caps
- Double sided tape
- Eight small screws with nuts
- A spoke.
Instruments, used by the author.
- Scissors for metal
- Crosshead screwdriver
- Drill or screwdriver
- pliers
- awl
- Ruler, marker.
Manufacturing process.
First of all, Igor marks a copper strip into equal sections and cuts rectangular plates with metal scissors.
Then he cuts eight strips from the plates, rounds them off the edges. The shape is similar to ice cream sticks.
Drills holes for cogs at one edge of the plates. Then bends the plates with pliers in the shape of the letter G.
Further, in a plastic cork he makes holes for the screws with an awl.
From a zinc plate cuts a rectangular blank.
It turns the workpiece into a cylinder and fastens it to the cork with one screw.
Then it fastens the copper blanks to the zinc sheet and cork, in this place there should be good contact.
This is the design that Igor got.
A piece suitable for height is cut from a plastic knitting needle, inserted into a piece of dense foam. It will be a support.
The whole design turned out pretty well balanced.
Using double-sided tape fixes the base of the support in the center of the plastic container. A box from the disks is quite suitable. Next, installs the main structure on a support.
Now, under the bottom of the tank substitutes several powerful ring neodymium magnets.
There was one final touch - pour electrolyte into the container. You don’t need to pour a lot, just overlapping the copper plates and the zinc cylinder is literally a couple of centimeters. And the device immediately begins to spin!
Here's an interesting device from Igor. The main point is electrolysis between a zinc cylinder and copper plates. An electric current appears in the plates, respectively, and a magnetic field that interacts with magnets. Rotor rotation is not fast.
Thanks to Igor for the wonderful physical experiment that children should see!
Good luck to everyone and good mood!
