The Yakuts decorated their birch bark dishes with black or dark brown horsehair or beads, which gave it a special decorative effect. From the birch bark, the Yakuts also made pieces of furniture, and the details of the national birch bark yurt - urasa. Archaeologists have found ornamented panels of the yurt: a birch bark door trimmed with an overlay of tinted birch bark with openwork slots and metal pendants made from diamond-shaped chased plates and cast balls. One can only guess how fabulously beautiful the urasa was when it stood near a forest or on a field and sparkled in the sun.
Served as birch bark and decorative material for gluing various wood products. It was cut, embossed, various patterns and ornaments were burned on it, and voluminous overlays were made on top of the products. Especially often used birch bark for decoration of furniture (cabinets, cupboards) and snuff boxes. Since the snuff box served as a kind of “participant” in the conversation, the master sought to give her picture as much meaning and amusement as possible. Sometimes on a snuffbox a whole story about a real or fairy-tale event was depicted by cutting, embossing or burning.
And in North China and Korea, large paintings and panels are still being created from birch bark, using not only various layers of birch bark, texture and thickness, but also bird feathers, dried herbs, mosses and lichens.
