DIY wooden hammer

Hi everyone, today I’ll tell you how a craftsman made a wooden hammer under the nickname Madebymitch.

Materials:
1. Tree walnut and oak
2. Wood glue

Instruments:
1. Planing machine
2. Circular saw
3. Clips

1. The author used one piece of walnut and one piece of white oak. To mill everything, the author first passed the tree through the planer, several times aligning the board and trimming the rough sides of the tree. The author did this for both parts until they were about ⅞ inch thick. You can do this on your own. In the author’s design, he placed a white oak between a walnut, so the handle should be the same thickness as a piece of medium white oak. Again, these are all preferences.

2.After the author cut everything to the right size, the author was able to glue the hammer head. First he laid the bottom piece of walnut, and then measured where the pen fits. After it was correctly positioned, the author took out a pen and glued two side parts from oak, which would be in the middle. The author turned them slightly to create a V-shaped variety with medium pieces of oak. Thus, when the author drives wedges into the handle, he will have room for expansion and a snug fit on the handle. The author attached two middle parts to the lower part and gave a little time to dry. As soon as it dried, he glued the top piece of walnut and clamped it.

3. While the head of the hammer has dried, the author went ahead and prepared the handle for assembly. What the author did was make two cuts with a cut about ¼ ”at the end of the handle. The author did this using his table saw and conductor, which he made specifically for this project. Further, he made the cuts as deep as the blade of the table saw would rise high, which was only 3 inches. ” The author wanted this to go a little deeper, he made a couple of passes with my jigsaw to slightly extend the slots. If you do not have a table saw for this or you do not want to make it, you can use a jigsaw for this without any problems. After making cuts, the author drilled a small hole at the end of the cut, so that the tree would not split when the author drove a wedge into it.

4. Then the author had to cut wedges that would go into the handle after everything was assembled. For this, the author used the transverse slide for the table saw. Then he put down the board and fastened a small board under it to tilt the piece that the author cut. This allowed the board to be cut at an angle. With the next cut, the author would cut 90 degrees to align his board. The author did this several times to get different thicknesses and angles.

5. Next, the author polished the entire hammer with a pen.

6. Then the author set the pen and hammered the wedge, cutting off the excess parts.

7. The hammer was covered with oil, it gives shine and paints the wood very well.

My grandfather would say: "Here, do not scatter without a pint!" I would like to know what work can be done with a glued mallet! smile
