How to polish your car headlights yourself

It is impossible to maintain the attractive appearance and pristine transparency of the headlights of the car during its operation on summer roads. Road dust does its job, and the plastic surface of the headlights from constant "shelling" of its solid particles inevitably becomes cloudy. You can polish the headlights by contacting a car service, but if you want to save money, it’s easy to cope with this business in your own the garageby yourself.

In order to polish the headlights of a car you will need:
1. Microfiber cloth and some car shampoo.
2. Sonax brand polish designed for polishing transparent plastic.
3. Angle polisher, for example, Interskol, and felt polishing wheels for it with a thickness of 10 and 5 mm.


Polish headlight auto, in the presence of these devices and materials, it is not difficult at all. For this:
1. The headlight is thoroughly washed from all contaminants that may disrupt the structure of the plastic when polished and wiped dry. This is best done several times.


2. Equip the polishing machine with a felt wheel having a thickness of 10 mm and apply a polish to it.

3. Using a felt circle, like a brush, apply polish with it to the entire surface of the headlamp.

4. Set the shaft frequency to 600 rpm on a polishing machine, turn it on and carefully polish the entire surface of the headlamp with the felt installed on it.

At the same time, it is important not to press hard on the plastic with felt, not to hold the felt circle in one place to avoid overheating of the plastic, and not to touch the surface of the car near the headlight so as not to scratch its paint. If the headlight is mounted in the car body so that it is difficult to polish it without touching its surface, then you can paste the surface of the car along the headlight contour with masking tape.

5. After polishing the headlight completely, wash it again, wipe it dry and polish again according to the same algorithm: applying polish to the felt circle of the machine - spreading the surface of the headlight with it - polishing - washing.In this way, the plastic headlights are polished until it becomes completely transparent.





6. At the final stage of work, the felt circle on the polishing machine is replaced with a thinner and more rigid one, 5 mm thick,

and complete the surface treatment of the headlights with finish polishing with hard felt. Only at this stage do not polish it immediately after applying the polish, but give the substance a little time to dry.

After such polishing, the headlight better transmits and scatters the light flux, and looks almost like a recently purchased one. If there is no polishing machine, then, of course, you can polish it with your hands, but such work will require a lot of time and labor.
