They brought us such a knife for repair.
Nothing special, but the customer says that the piece of iron on this knife is normal, it keeps tolerance sharpening, and in general it will work for mushroom picking. Well, let’s give this old man a second life, make him a new hilt, instead of a broken old one, super economical.

First, prepare the blade for welding. To do this, cut off the chip with a grinder forming a blade shank.
We clean the blade with sandpaper, remove traces of the old, barbaric sharpening on the sharpening machine.
Now we start manufacturing bolster. For him, in the bins of the workshop, they found a brass nut of unknown purpose. We cut off a segment from it, process it on a sharpening machine and clean it with sandpaper.
In a bolster, under the blade shank, it is necessary to cut a groove exactly in the center. To do this, paint a surface with a marker and mark the center with a vernier caliper.
We cut a groove with a drill.
We clean it with sandpaper and check the blade fit.
The shank of the knife will be made of an M6 bolt. Cut off and at the end we make a cut for the blade.
Before welding, make a couple of blanks for the handle. Cut off the ebony washer with a thickness of 1 cm.
Mark and cut two segments from it.
Also, before welding, we polish the blade and bolster on a felt circle with GOI paste, since after assembly it will be much more difficult to polish.
In order not to spoil the polish with sparks, close the blade and bolster with wet asbestos.
We weld the shank and process the weld.
We drill holes in hard rubber. In one pass-through, this blank will dock with a bolster.
In the second - deaf.
We cut the threads in the blind hole. This will be the top of the knife.
The handle itself will be made of cork. We cut rectangles 3 by 1.5 cm.
In the center of the rectangles we punch holes with a tube of suitable diameter.
We assemble the handle, glue all the parts together on epoxy.
After the epoxy has dried, we form the handle on the grinding machine.
Next, handle the handle with a file and sandpaper.
Ebony details are polished by hand using polishing paste. Goya paste in this case is not suitable, as it colors the cork in green color which can be removed only by removing the cork layer.
To close the pores on the cork, cover it with liquid epoxy. The resin can be diluted with a solvent.
Here's a mushroom picker knife. The customer is incredibly happy.
