Manufacturing process
To make this toy, the author uses wooden ice cream sticks.
First you need to measure the length of the stick and cut it in half. The author uses a knife with which he makes an incision in the desired place, and then simply breaks the stick.
Then you need to take two whole sticks and put two segments between them.
Now you need to prepare a few more sticks, the length of which should be equal to the width of the future boat.
Glue them with a glue gun as shown in the photo.
A total of four transverse sticks in front and two more from the stern of the boat.
Now you need to add two more small segments from one side of the boat and leave a small gap between them. The same thing to do from the other side.
It should be something like this. The engine blades will be inserted into the resulting center hole. The author’s hole sizes were 3.7 cm wide and 2 cm long.
Not critical if the size of your boat is slightly different.
Next, the author takes a whole stick, measures it in such a way that it overlaps all transverse sticks. Cuts and glues, the same operation should be done from the other side of the boat.
This is the bottom of the boat.
But this is the top of the boat.
To finish the deck of the boat, the author makes two more segments and glues them.
When the main work with the hull is completed, the author uses a knife to remove all unnecessary and give the edges of the boat rounded outlines, and makes the nose pointed.
To remove roughness, the author polishes the body with sandpaper.
This is how the hull looks after processing.
Now it remains to make the blades, for this you need to cut two identical sticks, a little shorter than the hole in the boat.
Then align both sticks in length and hold in a vice to make a cut in the center, but not to the end, but only to the middle.
Then you should give the edges of the sticks a rounded shape, and then connect them together.
In the next step, you need to thread clerical gum into the specially left holes and put the edges of the gum over the stern of the boat.
Now you can insert the blades.
That's all now the homemade boat with a rubber motor is ready and waiting for testing. It remains now to wind the blades in the opposite direction, lower the boat into the water and it will float. The better you cock the screw, the more turns you make, the farther the boat will sail.
