Lamp "Black stump"

Hello everyone, I propose to consider an interesting lamp that you can make do it yourself! It is made of stump, which was then burned. When the lamp is on, it appears as if the stump still burns in places. If you show a little imagination, you can make a more interesting highlight, the authors immediately used small incandescent lamps.

In the instructions, we will consider two ways to make such a lamp, one author uses more brutal and simple tools, and the second uses more modern tools. If you are interested in the project, I propose to study it in more detail.

Materials and tools that will be needed for the manufacture of the lamp:

Material List:
- stump;
- light bulb, cartridge, cable;
- ;
- oil for wood impregnation (or other impregnation);
- self-tapping screws, a piece of plywood and other little things.

Tool List:
- a tool for drilling holes in a tree (drill with a pen drill or the like);
- milling cutter (or hammer, chisel);
- gas burner (or bonfire);
- chainsaw (or ax);
- clamps (or nails);
- a brush (for cleaning a charred stump).

The manufacturing process of the lamp:

Step one. Cut out the desired shape
First, we need to cut the desired shape from the stump, in our case it is a rectangle. Here you can use different tools, for a simpler and better work you can use a chainsaw.

You can also do without a saw, one of the authors cut down the desired shape with an ax.

Step Two Chuck hole and
Next, you need to drill a hole in the stump under the cartridge with a bulb. It is better to make a larger hole so that the light bulb does not overheat the wood.

Of course, if the stump is oak or from other solid wood, it will be very difficult to drill it manually, here we need an electric drill. And for drilling holes of the desired diameter, we use pen drills.

You will also need to arrange a place for installing a dimmer. It can be cut down with a chisel.
At the end, it remains to make a recess in the stump where the lid will go. The milling cutter is well suited here, but if there is none, we work the old fashioned way with a chisel and hammer.

Step Three Housing holes
For the lamp to shine, you need to drill holes in the area of ​​the lamp, it is better to drill them at an angle so that the side of the lamp has a less noticeable glowing lamp, and then the rays of light will then go in different directions. Here we will also need a powerful drill, feather drills and so on.

Step Four “Mahmoud, set it on fire!”
We proceed to burning the stump. Of course, the easiest way to do this is with a gas burner or with a blowtorch. But if such a tool is not at hand, you can use a fire. The author built himself a “burner” from a stump, splitting it, removing the center, and then tying all the parts with wire. It turned out a kind of pipe made of wood, which burns beautifully. Of course, the bonfire in this case is much more interesting and romantic, at the same time you can fry sausages and talk about life, since this process is not very fast.

We burn stumps well, they should burn out and from the inside. Well, then stew, if the stump does not want to stew, you can cover it tightly in a bucket or otherwise block access to oxygen. And when the stump goes out, we clean everything that does not hold well with a brush.

Step Five Impregnation
Billets must be impregnated so that the coal does not get dirty and does not crumble. A good option is to use liquid glass, this substance does not burn and protects wood well. You can also use special oils for wood and so on. Please note that burned wood we absorb oil very intensively.

Step Six Assembly
We assemble the lamp, inside we install a cartridge with a lamp, as well. You can come up with a contact for the dimmer yourself, it can be a coin, in the tree it will look very good.
