Hello readers.
The author of this homemade, he’s the protagonist of the YouTube channel “George Kosilov” trying to never throw away things that have already served their term for their intended purpose, but could serve somewhere else.
Today he will delight us with the manufacture of a sports bar. And instead of pancakes for the bar, he will use brake drums, which have already outlived their first life. Thus giving the drums the opportunity to serve more, and not just rot from time to time.
Necessary materials and tools.
Manufacturing process.
The main component of the rod will be brake drums, and for this they need to be taken somewhere. The author finds two drums in his the garage and lent two more drums from a thrifty neighbor, promising to return without fail. In my opinion, he lied)))
The author examines the drums, at first he is confused by a rather large output but then he still decides to create a bar
The author decides to first clean the drums from rust. He cleans them with a grinder, but the process is quite difficult.
Then the author decides to conduct the cleaning by electrochemical method.
To do this, he connects wires to the parts (from the negative terminal), puts the drums in a dielectric container, and pours alkali solution. Also in the container puts a sheet of stainless steel to which a positive terminal is connected. And delivers a constant voltage. A 12V voltage will be enough, but it is necessary that the power supply be quite powerful. Otherwise, the electrolysis process will take a very long time.
How did the alkali solution, the author did not specify, but on the Internet there is a lot of information about this. Who does it by adding pipe cleaner to water, who adds a rust remover. In general, the main thing is that the composition contains soda ash.
So while the process of cleaning the drums, the author will deal with the barbell bar. To do this, he finds an inch pipe of not the first freshness, the pipe length is 112mm. You cannot shove a pipe into a bowl; you have to clean it manually. The author cleans the pipe with sandpaper, but then recalls that he has a grinder. The process is faster but noisy and dusty.
While the author was cleaning the pipe, the electrolysis process came to an end. Now the author has found in his inventory, two plates 15x15mm, made of metal 3mm thick. In these plates, you need to make holes coaxial with the holes on the drums and give the shape of a circle. The wizard marks the places of future holes, cores and drills holes. Gives the plates a circular shape with a diameter equal to the inner diameter of the drums.
Having fixed with each other magnets a circle with a pipe, and setting it in the center, the author welds these parts together.
Now you need to assemble the structure. For assembly, the author will use furniture bolts with M8 thread and a length of 20cm.
The author baits bolts into the drum, puts a bar with a welded disk on top and fastens nuts with each other.
Then he puts on the second drum from above and fixes it with nuts.
The same operation should be done on the other side of the neck. However, before you weld the second circle to the bar, you must first put on one drum.
Now you need to weight the resulting bar. The author makes a sand-cement mortar. And it is poured into each container, naturally it gives the solution a solution to freeze in one container, and then it pours into the second one.
Since the solution shrinks when dried, the author makes a small slide from the solution, which he will subsequently remove.
The stage has come for the refinement of the product. The author paints the bar with spray paint. Who does not have such a technique, you can do with paint in the spray can. At the end of the product there will be a sticker with the Mugen Power logo, this is important))
Perhaps you thought that the bar is ready ?? But no. The author decided to tune it a little. To do this, he takes the timing belt and fastens it around the perimeter of the so-called pancakes, drilling holes in the drums and screwing the ends of the belt with screws.
The belt will not only give the bar a more attractive look, but also protect the floors from bar impacts. With belts is much better, but that's not all.
From an adhesive film, the author cut out two strips and glued them to the drums. Now that's it, the bar is ready.
Judging by the testimony of the Chinese cantor, the total weight of the bar was a little more than 27 kilograms, not very heavy, but it will do for the entry level.
It's time to start the test. Well, while the author puffs up lifting the bar and shaking his bitsukha, I hasten to say goodbye to you. I’ll run to the nearest STO station, until all the brake drums have been dismantled, I’ll wash myself the same post.
And remember, who does sports, he gains strength.
