Do-it-yourself vox Moxon

Hello dear readers and the inhabitants of our site!
In this article, YouTube channel author Dustin Penner tells you how he made the vise of Moxon. This is a kind of joiner's vice with a very large width and surface of the sponges.

Materials
- Beech and cherry boards
- A steering wheel from shutoff valves - 2 pcs.
- PVA glue
- Stud, washers and nuts M16
- A sheet of skin, or dermatine
- Impregnation for wood
- Felt rag.

Instruments, used by the author.
- Manual frezer
- Band-saw
- Joiner's knife
- Drilling machine
- Milling machine
- Clamps, clamps
- Forstner drills
- A circular saw
- Spanners
- Sandpaper
- Chisels
- glue stick
- Hacksaw for wood
- Square, tape measure, pencil, core.

Manufacturing process.
So, the author picked up cherry and beech boards. The cherry boards seemed too thick for him, and he dismissed them on a band saw.

Now the master begins to manufacture blanks for the table and sponges. The blank consists of three layers. On the outside - cherry boards, and inside - beech.

After assembling the sandwich - pulls it with clamps and clamps. The author has a lot of them.

The glue has dried, you can proceed to the next step. Using a circular saw, trim the sides and ends.

He glues a template to all the blanks using a glue stick. After processing, the template will be easy to remove.

Drills a pair of holes in a fixed sponge with a Forstner drill.

Trims excess material on a band saw.

Cleans the edges with sandpaper. And so we got a blank of a fixed sponge.

Marks future holes for hairpins on it.

Then it drills a large blind hole through the thickness of the nut. A second drill, of a smaller diameter, drills a through hole, a stud will pass through it.

He tries on a stud with a nut, transfers the contours of the nut to the workpiece.

He cleans the hole with a chisel, inserts a nut into it. It is important that she sit flush. This is the front of the fixed sponge.

Now it pulls both jaws together with clamps.

He removes the nuts, marks the holes on the second sponge.

Then he drills two holes with a slight offset of 4 mm. It turns out something like an oval.

Marks up for milling.

Then it cuts out such a small groove on a milling machine. This will be the connection of the table and the fixed sponge.

Handles the edges of the chisel groove.

Connects two parts among themselves, makes marks for grooves of additional stiffening ribs.

Having glued a simple square from plywood, a small mark is milled on its edge.

Fixes the square with a clamp to the workpiece, mills the grooves.

The same grooves are made in the table.

He cleans the grooves of the chisel, cuts out two square supports from the cherry board.

Glues a little table and a motionless sponge, fixes it with clamps, removes the remains of glue.

Now glues the spacers into the grooves.

It’s the turn of the movable sponge. For greater softness of the clamp, and good fixation of parts, the master glues a piece of dermatin to the inside of the sponge. In order for it to stick well, draws it through a sheet of plywood with clamps.

After drying the glue, removes the clamps, and cuts off excess skin.

Cleans a chisel pin hole.

All parts are ready, you can soak them in oil. How the wood texture comes to life immediately!

Now installs studs with nuts into the fixed sponge.

On the back of the sponge, a nut is bent on the stud.

And tightens the nuts with a wrench.

Fixes a fixed sponge to the table with clamps. Installs a movable sponge. He puts on two rubber rings on the studs, and winds the pressure steering wheels

Everything is ready to go! Clamps a board in a vice, makes several cuts.

Sawing horizontal cuts with a jigsaw, stripping with a chisel.

In a similar way it processes the second workpiece. Here is the classic dovetail joiner’s compound.

Thanks to the author for the simple but useful device for the workshop!

All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
