DIY wind spinner

Hello dear readers and the inhabitants of our site!
In this article, Steve, the author of the YouTube channel "Steve Carmichael", will tell you how to make a simple and effective decoration for the garden or interior - an aerospinner, or a wind top - eye fun.

In parallel with the project, the author will install an 18-inch fan to maintain a cool temperature in the workshop in the summer.

Materials
- Stud M6, a pair of nuts and washers
- Boards from different types of wood, dark and light
- Spray varnish, paint
- Sandpaper
- Fishing swivel
- Wall fan.

Instruments, used by the author.
- A circular saw
- Band-saw
- Wrench
- Vise
- Belt sander or file
- Pliers
- Drilling machine or screwdriver
- Ruler, pencil.

Manufacturing process.
The material for this decor can be ordinary wood trim, which is not a pity to give to the free will of the wind, as well as a 90-centimeter steel hairpin. On each side of the stud, a couple of centimeters should be free, that is, in fact, only 86 cm of the steel rod will be filled with wooden segments.

Each plate will be 12X20 mm in thickness and about 250 mm in length. And such segments need 70 pieces. All work begins with cutting boards on a circular saw. For the plates, the author used a cherry tree and a couple of other varieties of wood with wood slightly different in color. Contrast colors look good with slight transitions in shades. Segments can be arranged so that they match the pattern and, at the same time, are interleaved in colors. Closer to the center, he arranged longer plates, and shorter ones to the edges to give the whole product a cone shape.

As a result, the number of these plates is enough to fill a metal stud. Only its edges, a couple of centimeters on each side, will be unoccupied - there will be fastenings.

In each segment, Steve makes a hole in the center and then smooths the plates on the grinder, and then manually. This is necessary because all the plates will be coated with a layer of varnish.

While the finish dries, the author will install the fan. This device was supposed to hang on the ceiling, but Steve turns the sticker over and fastens it on the wall with a simple locking bolt. So now the fan can be turned in any direction. He has a power cord several meters long, so if you install the device under the ceiling, the cord length is enough. A box with mounting tools and a chain extension is attached to the device.

We return to the first project. Steve is going to hang his product on a fishing swivel.

To do this, he first needs to slightly smooth both sides of the stud so that a hole can be drilled in it.

First, Steve screwed the nut onto the rod, then made two descents on a belt sander, and then drilled a hole.

Then he paints the edge of the stud with the nut.

Then he strung one after another all the plates in the order in which they were laid out on the table. And in the end, fixes the entire structure with a second nut.

He uses a ruler to sketch out the contours of the shape that will then be cut out on a band saw. So the author will get rid of chipping and give the edges a smoother shape. In the middle, the product will resemble an hourglass in shape.

Now it cleans the ends with sandpaper, and varnishes a second time.

The fishing swivel is designed for a weight of 10 kg. But this thing seems to weigh half as much.

Now all that remains is to rotate each segment slightly so that the edge of each previous segment extends to the middle of the side of the next. The result is a spiral.

It remains only to try how this aerospinner works. Steve wanted to check the device on the street, but there was heavy rain.

And even if the weather is bad, there are always other options ... right! The fan came in handy.

Thanks to the author for a simple and interesting idea for decorating a house or garden!

All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
