The master decided to improve the accuracy of drilling his dremel. He wanted a drill stand such as the Proxxon Bench Drill Press TBM 115, but it costs too much. The upright for Dremel alt costs € 50, but this model with one metal column as a rail, and it has poor horizontal drilling accuracy. Therefore, he decided to build a vertical stand on his own.
Step One: Materials and Tools
Materials:
- a strong spring (or a large elastic band);
- several boards;
- beam 50x50 mm .;
- screws 8 mm .;
- a small aluminum cylindrical strip (like a television antenna) 125 mm. 2 pcs.;
- wooden base (shield);
- a handle from a toothbrush;
- an aluminum rod, with a diameter of 10 mm. with a hole at the end;
Instruments:
- screwdriver;
- a circular saw;
Step Two: Movable Carriage
This movable rail was bought from the Chinese by aliexpress. Used on all kinds of tripods. This aluminum rail has two different screws for fixing the mobile carriage to the rail. One of the screws can move along the axis, so you can choose the best distance between the two joints for more convenient fastening snooze.
Step Three: Attaching the Dremel
To fasten the napkin, an aluminum pipe with a diameter of 50 mm was sawn along. The result was an aluminum cylindrical bar. These pipe halves will hold the nap. Using the movable screw, it is necessary to find the optimal mounting location for the napkin. Then, using nylon clamps that pass under the washers, fasten the napkin on cylindrical slats, which in turn are mounted on the rail with screws.
Step Four: Adjusting the Carriage Latches
There are two clamps on the rail. One small and one large to block the carriage. We remove the small retainer and the hex screw will be used instead. Instead of a large retainer, a screw will also be used, but a longer one. Then you need to configure them to increase the accuracy of the dremel when the lever is released.
Step Five: Handle for carriage direction
The gray plastic part, is a spare part from the scooter, and it came in handy, this is exactly what you need. This part connects two cylindrical perpendicular parts. A handle from a toothbrush was glued to this spare part.
The small nail that is inserted into the plastic part is a movement stop.
A locking hex screw was screwed into the hole of the small retainer. To avoid unscrewing, you can add a drop of glue before screwing. When removing this screw, the spring loosens and everything is disassembled.
Step Six: Install the return mechanism
The master drilled a hole in the upper end of a vertical rack for an aluminum bar, with a diameter of 10 mm. Then I installed this bar using glue. The other end of the bar has a hole. A spring is installed in the hole and the upper mounting screw on the rail. In order that the spring does not warp, the aluminum bar must be bent to the required angle. The main requirement is that the spring work in the same plane with the guide rail.
Seventh step: Installing the legs
For stability of this rack, rubber legs were glued to the support using double-sided tape.
Step Eight: Attaching the Rails to the Rack
The fixed rail is attached to a small wooden block with a screw with a diameter of 8 mm.
In this case, another screw connects this wooden block to the vertical column of the rack.
Step Nine: Attaching a Vertical Column with a Lower Support
Six holes were drilled in the lower support for mounting the vertical column. The connection is made using self-tapping screws. The vertical column is not mounted in the center, but on the left side. This is done on purpose, since the handle that drives the carriage is located on the right. Thus, the vertical force is compensated by the arrangement of the column.
