The basis for the manufacture of these watches was the old block from the pallet, which had a very beautiful face pattern, but had one drawback - it had a crack in the center. Because of this, the master for a long time did not know where and how it can be used. This is where the idea came to my mind to simply cut this flaw from the bar, creating an internal trapezoid inside it.
On a lathe, this bar must be honed to the state of a round blank. Since the center at the workpiece was cut, and it was impossible to determine the center, the master had to glue the sides of the plywood on the ends of the bar, which coincided in size with the bar itself. Here, on these side walls, new centers for fixing on a lathe were outlined. Next, the machined workpiece is sawn into circles with a diameter of 25 mm. It turns out here is such a dial that will set the tone for the entire product and its maximum diameter.
Go to the next item. All details must be end-face in order to maintain the overall pattern of the tree. We find a suitable piece of pine and saw out a triangular piece. Saw it into 12 parts of the dial. He lays out ready-made details on the table and the idea with a clock begins a visible embodiment in reality.
The next steps are the manufacture of additional elements of the dial, which should expand its gradation.
The central element will be arranged and glued from 4 cubes with a beautifully selected face pattern. After drying, the part is processed on a lathe.
The author, contrary to popular belief, first a drawing, then a product, did exactly the opposite. Since the parts will be filled with epoxy resin, they must be at the same distance from each other, and the chance that the parts can diverge is also very large. Therefore, creating a drawing in AutoCAD, the author glues it onto a plywood base and glues wood blanks on it. To prevent the resin from spreading outside the field allocated to it, the author creates a kind of fencing with a carnation on which the masking tape is glued. The bottom edges are coated with sealant. When it dries, the cloves are pulled out to be reused in some other project.
Starts pouring tar. After measuring the right amount of resin and hardener, everything is thoroughly mixed. Then color is added. Poured into the cooked form. After a day, everything dries up and the tape is removed.
A circle is drawn through the central hole designated on the reverse side, along which all unnecessary at the base is sawn off. The same hole will help to correctly position the washer and not to lose the center of the product when grooving. The workpiece is attached to the machine and grinded. Attention! When working with epoxy on a lathe, be sure to wear a respirator and safety glasses. The back of the watch, its plywood base is grinding off. This will be done on a drum - grinding machine, so the author simplifies his task as much as possible.
Using a milling machine, select the hole for the clockwork. We drill a hole in the center of the clock for the hands. Everything is finally polished and processed with polishing pastes and oil, which is not worth sparing, since the author’s entire product consists of end cuts, and it absorbs oil very much. As soon as the wood ceases to absorb it, we remove its remains with a rag. Further, the product is processed with heated wax at high speed so that it is absorbed into the structure of the tree.
Insert the clockwork into the groove. It can be taken from cheap Chinese watches, which were at one time popular in every home. So finding them is a big deal. We fix the hands, install the battery and excellent, original clocks made of wood and resin pleasantly delight the eye in your home.
