Mini wood lathe without any bells and whistles

Hello! The other day, somehow I was sitting doing a knife handle and thought that you can make a cylindrical handle, but how to make a perfectly smooth knife handle ?? I went on the Internet and came across a guy where he makes a pen on a lathe, and I wanted myself the same machine. I thought I sat and looked what material I have. And I realized, except for pieces of metal, I have nothing. And he decided to collect without any bells and whistles, from what is lying under his feet.

And so we need: a drill, welding, two 5 cm tubes and 4 bearings with an outer diameter suitable for the tube

I took the bearings with an outer diameter of 20mm and an inner diameter of 8mm. My tubes were only 5cm galvanized. The inner diameter is 20mm.

Now we need to press the bearings into the tubes, as shown in the photo

I pressed on the cold and sat quite firmly. Next, I found two pieces of iron for spacers somewhere cm 3.

Now we need to weld the tubes to the spacers, we need to cook carefully, immediately, after each brew, we need to cool the tubes, otherwise the bearing will jam.

After I welded everything, you need to find the area where everything will be fixed. I have a piece of 50cm corner. Clamp in a vice, outline the place of welding

I also weld gently periodically while cooling. After I welded one tube, I centered the second, putting the electrode into the bearing. Next, let everything cool. Well, I cut two pieces of wire at 8mm, somewhere around 15cm. One end sharpened

At the pointed end of the wire, I begin to cut the threads onto the m6 nut. Next, I screw two nuts onto the stud, grease the bearings with solid oil and insert into the bearing with a sharp edge inward and lock with two nuts

Now I cut the thread on the second wire leaving 3cm with the edge

Now the edge without thread was flattened to the point and clamped in a vice and a hacksaw for metal, sharpened. This sting is needed to hold the workpiece.

I collect as well as the first.

I put the drill at medium speed, like there are no beats, only the drill is not stable, I decided to weld the platform under the drill

I tried on everything. Now I weld a piece of 10cm corner to emphasize the cutters

Well, I was thinking, everything was ready, I took a piece of the handle 15 cm, made a cross on one side, drank it up, put it on the machine, and smeared the second edge with a grease and tightened the nuts, checking the alignment.

I don’t have cutters, I made them from a two mm metal sheet for testing

Well, our unit is ready, I hope it will not kill me on the first launch

This is so, in a hurry, this is my first experience with a lathe, so do not judge strictly

Thanks for attention.
