Do-it-yourself scooter with a gasoline engine (33cc / 4T)


Hello fans to craft, I propose to consider a project for the manufacture of a homemade scooter. As an engine for a scooter, the author used a motor from a gas trimmer. An interesting fact is that this engine and it needs to be fed with clean gasoline without oil.

The only problem with such engines is high revs. To solve this problem, the author used a reduction gear from an electric motor. Accelerates homemade up to 40 km, and the motor here is not used the most powerful, only 33 cubes. If the project interests you, I propose to familiarize yourself with it in more detail!



Materials and tools used by the author:

Homemade manufacturing process:

Step one. Gearbox installation
The shaft speed of the selected engine is too high, and the torque is rather weak, since the engine is not very powerful. To solve this problem, we need a reduction gearbox, which will allow us to obtain high torque and reduce speed. The author found the necessary gearbox in an electric motor, we disassemble it and redo the gearbox. The drive gear here is made directly at the engine anchor, so we cut off a piece of the axis and now it needs to be installed on the shaft of the gasoline engine.



















In the motor shaft there is a hole with splines into which the trimmer shaft is inserted. We need to make the diameter of the rod cut off from the anchor smaller, for this the author clamps it in a drill and, thanks to the grinder, sets the desired shaft diameter. Well, then we drill a hole in the trimmer shaft, cut the thread under the screw, and in the installed shaft we make a groove. As a result, we do not have to spoil the engine from the trimmer.

The gearbox itself needs to be very firmly attached to the engine, since here the load will go, which the engine will transmit to the drive wheel. We will need to make special brackets, we will fasten those screws that hold the gas tank on the trimmer, the clutch cover and so on.We make the brackets of sheet iron of suitable thickness, bend, drill holes and weld nuts.

Step Two Weld the frame
We will prepare the wheels for the scooter, for this we will need wheels from a children's bicycle. We install the disc brake on the drive wheel, and also install the drive driven sprocket, it is on the ratchet mechanism of the author, so the scooter will roll forward.














Based on the diameter of the wheels, we decide how long and wide the frame will be, and then we proceed to assemble it. The author uses shaped pipes as a material. We cut and weld, in the back of the frame we make a fork for the rear wheel. We use two iron plates for this.

As for the front, then the author decided to use a piece from the bicycle. The frame was cut and the forks shortened to the desired length. We weld the frame at the right angle to the frame of the scooter and now we have the whole frame almost ready.

















Step Three Steering wheel
The scooter wheel needs to be lengthened, we are looking for a piece of a round pipe of suitable length. As for the steering wheel itself, its author also welded from round pipes.








Step Four Footboard
Be sure to make a kickstand for the scooter, since the equipment we have is already serious and you can’t just throw it on the ground or put it under the wall. The footboard can be used from the same children's bicycle. Just shorten it, bend it and weld it to the scooter frame.


Step Five Installation of the engine and brakes
The engine needs to be fixed securely, we manufacture and weld the mounting ears to the frame. Well, then we fasten the engine with the same screws that hold the gas tank and other engine parts.

Be sure to install the brake, we previously installed the brake disc on the wheel. We weld the mounting plate under the caliper and fasten the caliper with screws. That's all, after installing the chain, you can start the engine and see what speed the wheel develops.









Step Six Seat
As for the seat, this part of the frame along with the seat is also cut off from the bicycle, lengthened and welded to the frame of the scooter. The author’s seat was in good condition, it only took to wash it.







Seventh step. Painting and assembly
We clean the frame well with a brush nozzle for the grinder, and where we can’t crawl, we work with a manual brush. For the frame, you also need to cut the bottom out of sheet metal.

The frame can be painted, now everything looks beautiful, and it will not rust. You can start assembling, install the throttle handle and connect the rear brake. As for the ignition of the engine, it is highly desirable to bring the switch to the steering wheel so that you can quickly turn off the engine in case of something.

























The scooter is ready, the author refueles the engine with clean gasoline without oil and sets off. The car accelerates without problems, the maximum speed in a straight line is around 40 km / h, which is quite normal for a small scooter.
