In this article, the author of the YouTube channel "Creative Forging", will tell you about the original technology of creating a "dragon skin" or "wheat ear" on a steel square.
The technology is very simple and requires a minimum of tools.
Materials
- Steel square 20X20 mm
- Trim reinforcement.

Manufacturing process.
First of all, the master cuts off a workpiece 400 mm long from a steel square 20X20 mm.
Then applies markings in increments of 10 mm. It should correspond to half the edge of the square. In the case of a square 30X30 mm, it will be in increments of 15 mm.
Using a caliper marks the middle of the workpiece.
By marking, it causes longitudinal risks from all sides of the square.
Then, using a square, makes diagonal marking. It should be as accurate as possible and clearly visible.
It fixes the workpiece in a vice, and makes cuts at an angle of 45 degrees. It is important to keep the same depth.
Then makes longitudinal cuts along the entire length of the workpiece.
It should be such a blank.
For the convenience of work, temporarily welds the handle from trimming reinforcement.
Starts the hearth, and heats the workpiece well.
After a good and uniform heating, it clamps the workpiece in a vise, and begins to rotate it with an adjustable wrench.
If the shape of the workpiece is slightly curved, it can be adjusted.
Almost everything is ready, it remains only to clean the workpiece from scale with a wire disk.
Here is a beautiful texture turned out by the master.
Thanks to the author for a simple but very interesting technique for invoicing steel!
All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
