Manufacturing process.
So, the author chose a pine board as the material for the foundation, as one of the fairly soft types of wood. And marked on it future slots.
Then he fixed the workpiece in a vice, and made cuts.
Excess material is removed with a chisel, and the corners are cleaned.
Now the workpiece is subjected to heat treatment. The author cooks it in boiling water for 10-15 minutes. And so that it does not come up, presses it with a small weight.
Then he takes out the workpiece, and immediately compresses one section in a vice. In this position, the workpiece remains for several days. During this time, the wood should dry, and will keep its shape.
This is how the compressed and dried section looks like in a few days.
Now the master needs to drill a hole in the two middle sections along the diameter of the pencil.
Sets the pencil in place.
Then it again lowers the squeezed section into boiling water until it reaches maximum straightening.
Of course, the section did not completely restore its shape, but this is enough for the focus. It is only necessary to trim all sections in height, and then sand the surface with sandpaper. It is also advisable to soak the wood with linseed oil to protect it from moisture.
Here is the puzzle and ready. On the basis there are no joints, or gluings. In this case, the pencil moves absolutely freely inside the sections so that its integrity can be considered.
And to make the subject astray, the author drills a small hole in one external section. It is half the diameter of a pencil. Now let them wonder how is this possible?
Thanks to the author for a simple but interesting wood processing technology!
All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
