I welcome fans to craft, today we will make a simple but unusual hatchet. Is smirking homemade quite interesting, and in fact the ax is quite convenient and even nothing. The peculiarity of the ax is that its metal part is simply a flat plate, which is clamped in the handle and holds on two screws. The design turned out to be quite strong, but if such an ax breaks, everything will have to be done anew. Using high-quality carbon steel, you can get a decent tool. Specifically, this homemade product has rather decorative value, of course, you can chop with an ax, but the steel did not pass hardening and most likely it is usually iron. Materials and tools used by the author:

Hatchet manufacturing process:
Step one. Main profile
We begin the process of manufacturing an ax by cutting the main profile. First, draw an ax on paper and cut out a template with scissors. The made template can be glued to the workpiece and start cutting. We will cut the grinder, everything is done quite quickly if the steel is not hardened and we do not need to be afraid to overheat it. The author did not temper steel at all, and the ax was apparently made from a piece of a profile pipe.
Step Two Grinding work
After cutting with a grinder, we need to modify the profile, here we need a grinding disk for the grinder, we remove what we could not cut. You can also work with files and sandpaper. The author draws the bevels on the hatchet by eye, using a thick grinding disc.
At the end, the ax is processed along the contour with a drill with a nozzle for installing sandpaper.
Step ThreeHoles and Finishing
We drill holes in the ax, we need two holes for attaching the ax, and the author also drills another large diameter hole for tactical purposes. The drill must be lubricated, and if you need to drill a hole of large diameter, we use several drills to increase the diameter.
In the end, we grind the ax well on sandpaper with fine grain, moisten the paper with water, so it will be much better to grind.
Step Four A pen
We cut out the handle for the ax, in the upper part the handle is expanded and cut under the ax. The ax itself is mounted on screws. The author cut out a pen using a tape cutting machine. It would be nice to use hard wood like oak, ash and so on.
We also install the butt, it is an iron plate, which is screwed with screws.
When the ax is assembled, proceed to grinding the handle using a grinder with a thick grinding disc or with a petal nozzle. Having formed the main profile, we modify it manually using sandpaper. Ideally, the handle should be completely smooth.
Step Five Impregnation and testing
We impregnate the ax with oil, now the wood looks great and is protected from water. We also cover the iron parts with oil so that the ax does not rust. That's all, after sharpening the hatchet you can experience. The author easily pricks them chips and planes.
