Homemade ice cream making (on Peltier elements)

Hello to all lovers of craftsmanship, and here came a hot time. At such a time of the year, you want the maximum amount of cold, cold drinks, ice cream and other products are used. Today we will look at how to make a device that allows you to make ice cream without leaving your home. Homemade easy to assemble and does not require large investments. The device forms cold due to Peltier elements, as a result, the working plane is cooled to a temperature of about -20 ° C. For the effective operation of the elements, the design provides a liquid cooling system for the hot side of the elements. If you are interested in the project, I propose to study it in more detail!

Materials and tools used by the author:

Material List:
- 4 aluminum radiators for liquid cooling;
- ;
- hoses;
- ;
- aluminum sheet (or other material for the work surface;
- plywood or similar material;
- brass tees;
- thermal grease;
- double-sided adhesive tape;
- self-tapping screws.

Tool List:
- soldering iron;
- drilling machine;
- soldering tools;
- a circular saw or other tool for cutting wood;
- ruler;
- marker;
- stationery knife;
- Bulgarian.

Homemade manufacturing process:

Step one. Principle of operation
At the heart of the homemade product are 4 Peltier elements, on the one hand such an element is heated, and on the other it is cooled. The more efficiently heat is removed from the hot side, the more efficiently the temperature decreases on the cold side. For a good heat dissipation, the author made a simple liquid cooling system, as a result, the working surface is cooled to a temperature of about -20 ° C. Ice cream is poured onto the work plane in liquid form, then the machine turns on and the ice cream freezes. As a result, it remains to be cut with a special knife, we get a kind of rolls.

Of course, aluminum is not very good for health, so it is better to make a working coating of stainless steel.

Step Two Set Peltte Elements
To begin with, we will make a working plane, the author decided to make it from aluminum. We cut out a piece of sheet metal of the shape necessary and install elements on it, they must be fastened with the cold side. On both sides the elements must be greased with thermal grease for good heat transfer.

On top of the Peltier elements we install radiators through which water will circulate. Between each other we glue the radiators with double-sided tape.

Step Three Housing
We make a case for the device, here we need plywood or other similar material. We cut the plywood into pieces of the desired size and assemble the body. For fastening, the author uses self-tapping screws.

Step Four Splitters
As a result, 4 radiators are installed in the design, each radiator has two tubes, respectively, we have 4 tubes for water inlet and 4 for outlet. To connect all these tubes we need to make special splitters, on each such splitter there are 5 fittings. The author collects the necessary parts from brass tees, you need to solder two additional tubes to them. To do this, drill holes in the tees and solder the tubes cut off from the other tees.

Step Five Assembly and refinement
For assembly, we need to connect the hoses through which water will circulate. It should pass through the tubes to the radiators, and then go out and go back to the tank where the pump is. However, the system can also be connected to a water tap, but here it is important not to make the pressure too large.

We also solder the wires to the Peltier elements, the power source is a 12V battery.

Pour liquid ice cream onto the surface, spread, crumble chocolate and so on. Next, we start home-made, after a while the ice cream will freeze. Now it will need to be cut off with a special knife, in the end we will get rolls.

As a modernization, the author installed a work plane with sides so that nothing would drip on the table and device.
That's all, homemade works fine, consumes little electricity. Now living on hot days will be much more comfortable and tastier. On this project is over, I hope you liked the homemade. Good luck and creative inspiration, if you decide to repeat this. Do not forget to share your ideas and homemade things with us!

Definitely not to say which is more expensive
Not often, taking up homemade work, we think about the price of materials! smile
Definitely not to say that more expensive aluminum or stainless steel depends heavily on the grade of alloy. The stainless steel is special with a high chromium content, then it is expensive and the physical characteristics are much cooler than aluminum except for higher density. But pure aluminum is also rarely used because it is soft and can be scratched with a fingernail, so it’s most likely a duralumin, or steeper anodized duralumin. In the dairy industry, it seems to me that plastic tubes should be used in them, they have lower thermal conductivity, milk from milking cows will still be warm, it will not heat up

This scanty film is very easily destroyed by chemical means.

All food adheres to pure aluminum, you need to pour linseed oil, burn the pan to a black coating, this coating is super, the coolest of all your newfangled tefali, nothing sticks to it and there is no contact with metal.

Liquid, Dmitry .....))))))))
And you here about harmful aluminum ....)))
The so-called “food-grade aluminum” is distinguished by the fact that a very, very thin oxide film is created on its surface, which prevents even oxygen from penetrating into it!))) With mechanical damage, it is restored literally right away ...
And therefore, aluminum utensils are very widespread .... It was ....)))
Because now it’s not the “rich USSR”, and aluminum is now more expensive than stainless steel, because a huge amount of electricity is spent on its production ... And at the same time, stainless steel is inferior in many respects ....
But here, for example, in the dairy industry (even on farms in milking machines) and now it is very widely used due to its plasticity and low weight (the tubes from it do not crack during vibration, even thin and long) ... And its thermal conductivity is very high ...
P.S. And you just need to clean the pan)))))
... Uhhh ... But has it already turned black on your inside ??? )))))))

He himself has a basin for cooking jam, which he got from his grandmother. But far from everything you can cook in copper. So another question is which is safer.

But it’s good for them to cover everything! ))) Reliable! )))
Well, if to be absolutely accurate, then aluminum is third after silver and copper in thermal conductivity. At the expense of its safety, there are many scientific papers on its neurotoxicity. They do more with it because of marketing and not rational reasons, since it is cheap, lightweight, low-melting and does not rust and the most widespread metal on Earth with iron, and it is also mined easily by loading ordinary alumina in the melt by electrolysis

I also have aluminum pans, but they are black. This black crust makes it impossible to contact food with aluminum.

But to drink from aluminum dishes or to scrape ice cream from an aluminum sheet is very niharasho. Aluminum itself is biologically neutral, but its oxides ... are toxic.
Some used to eat from lead dishes ... but this is not a reason to follow
Aluminum in thermal conductivity is the second metal after copper (from widely available). Not just because of it make radiators. And also one of the safest, not just like that, cans are made of it, baking dishes, pans, in general, are used massively in the food industry. Copper, with proper care, is also suitable for cooking. He himself has a basin for cooking jam, which he got from his grandmother. But far from everything you can cook in copper. So another question is which is safer.

it seems to me that oxidized copper is much worse than “luminium”
Aluminum is not only less useful, it is also less heat-conducting and stainless steel, too, than, for example, copper
