Copper wire soldering tool (two versions)

Good afternoon dear “the inhabitants of our site"! I offer two options fixtures for soldering copper wires with a gas spray and burner. You all know that PUEs prohibit the twisting of electrical wires. Of all the acceptable connection methods without the presence of electricity near the installation site for home masters are admissible, in my opinion, only three. First: This is soldering using my device. Second: Crimping. But this requires crimping and sleeves. Therefore, the acquisition for home use of the crimp, I think it is impractical. Third: This is the so-called "Pavlovsky Bolt." An appropriate size bolt, nut, grover and at least two galvanized washers. When there is electricity nearby, the number of ways increases. The most effective is welding, but this is the topic of a separate publication. But what about the famous WAGO? Firstly, they cost money. Secondly (exclusively my point of view) WAGO connectors for lighting circuits only. There are also terminal blocks of domestic production. But they also have drawbacks. Every half year - year they need to be tightened. I do not consider PPE in principle, I do not like them.

Let the respected craftsmen not be embarrassed by the spring. It is clean for decoration, but it also slightly protects against accidental contact with a red-hot crucible and holder

. Yes, and most importantly! Nowhere and never forget the safety rules !! Wear safety glasses and gloves when handling these devices. I recommend for repetition.

There are two options
No, here is the third option! The cable guy - the welder works by what he was taught to work in vocational schools, so more familiar, and this is what he probably inherited from the previous cable guy - the welder! And the higher one in figs, it works, well, okay! smile
There are two options (or reasons), the first is to working deeply in half, the working day is on and thank God, I don’t want to change anything (do I need it?). The second option (the most likely) is the requirement of the superior to strictly adhere to the technology, and it does not matter that it is outdated until there are no new instructions, "the commander said, ferret, and no gophers," under pain of reprisal up to dismissal for violation of technical regulations.

I doubt that for the sake of connecting a cable of 10 pairs, the signalmen will breed this cupola
Bred, the usual equipment, the usual operations, especially in winter, and the veins in their cables are not thin! But thank God, it was not necessary to set up a tent, so, on his haunches, right in the trench, which they themselves were digging! smile

I publish fresh photos, as promised. Thanks again for your question.

It is quite possible for signalmen it is even economically justified when you need to solder a cable of 120 pairs sitting on the priest exactly, on a folding chair in the tent. Perhaps it will be even faster with the crucible. Although I doubt that for the sake of connecting a cable of 10 pairs, the signalmen will breed this cupola. But it’s about installation electrical wiring .

safely and deservedly forgot about him
No, they didn’t forget, the signalmen - cable men still use in the field, though they have crucibles, and burners, and cylinders are slightly different! smile
I just decided to share with the same home (garage) craftsmen as I save money without inviting professionals.
And advise the most troublesome version of soldering. This installation method has not been used for thirty years, and they have safely and deservedly forgotten about it. For the volume of work of the garage level, a soldering iron of 80 W, taken "for hire" from friends if you don’t have one, is enough, this is a saving. A
Idea
ask on the Internet how it's done why not
came to my mind
? There, while they don’t take money for tips, it’s important to filter out all sorts of rubbish like VAGO, terminal blocks and tips
DIY is now so fashionable and relevant.
, there is 90% nonsense.
P.S. I hope you did not use a cable for wiring in the garage
from all trash.
type KG, and did not use soldering acid or any other active flux as a flux, or some suspicious jar in the photo.

Most likely I guessed right. You are a professional electrician, moreover, with a higher economic education! And I'm just a lover of “something” to craft from all kinds of trash. The idea of creating these soldering devices came to my mind when I changed the wiring in the garage. There was an old aluminum with twists, even from Soviet times. It became copper and brazed, it can be said for the "century". For half an hour I made, applied and forgot or “scored”. A burner really costs about 250 rubles. Spray can with gas 50-60r. I use them for igniting coal in the barbecue. Sometimes to warm something that does not unscrew.I just decided to share with the same home (garage) craftsmen as I save money without inviting professionals. DIY is now so fashionable and relevant.
You amused me, thanks!
Well, let's count. A piezo ignition burner that you use costs at least 500 rubles, I use a less powerful burner, which I bought in a hookah accessories store, and it costs 250 rubles. The gas consumption in my burner is correspondingly less, I have to heat much less (the twist itself is heated to the melting point of the solder). You need to heat more solder in order to completely dip the twist into the melt (I hope physics remember the heat capacity and the amount of heat). Consumables cost about the same (solder with flux should not cost much more than the components separately). And now let's estimate the labor costs: in order to solder the wires in the wiring, I need a knife, pliers, a torch, solder, and insulating tape or heat shrink. I can shove all of the above into my pockets, once climb the ladder, strip the wires with a knife, twist them in the necessary order with pliers, then take the torch in one hand and the solder coil in the other and heat the ends of the twists to solder them one by one. After soldering, it remains only to isolate the connections (I shrink the heat shrink with the same burner), lay the wires and close the box and go down the ladder. What is super professional in my actions that no man can do with his hands? Now we will consider the crucible version: for work we will have to break the process into three parts - preparation, soldering and insulation itself. To perform these operations will have three !!! times to climb up and down the ladder, you will not take a crucible with melt when stripping wires, and you will not isolate with it either. As a result of these excess movements, towards the end of the work, the legs will buzz like a transformer. So what is the benefit?
I did not say that your method is completely unsuitable, it is simply irreplaceable for soldering wires that have been in rubber insulation (at least in terms of headache this is the best option), and I also have a crucible made of a brass sleeve for such cases caliber. But I am against your advice to use the crucible in any case, referring to the cheapness of the method, by this you mislead readers.
There are also terminal blocks of domestic production. But they also have drawbacks. Every half year - year they need to be tightened.
Who cares who the manufacturer is? Do you think the Chinese do not? The point is not in the manufacturer, but in the design: screw clamp.

Everything is very simple! We make a hole in the paper clip. We bend the wire at the end with round-nose pliers into a loop and fix it with a bolt, nut washer. Tomorrow I will definitely post a photo. Thanks for your question!

Let me quote myself: ".... for home craftsmen ..." If, you. dear critic - a professional, and even make money on it, you certainly will not come in handy. Spend your hard-earned money on an insanely expensive professional tool, it will definitely pay off for you. And I naively thought that I published this material exclusively for thrifty people. They used to say and write: "Comrade! Take care of every nail!" or "Thrift - a communist trait", etc. .... You can hammer nails and a microscope. Health and happiness dear to you!
I use the crucible only when I need to solder something thicker than 4 square or irradiate muck like a KG cable (in rubber insulation), in which, even fresh, the veins are already oxidized.Up to 4 square, everything is quite normally soldered with a small gas burner and solder with a flux inside. Everything looks beautiful on the picture on the table, it would be interesting to see how to handle this crucible while standing on a stepladder under the ceiling, in a soldering box from which 9-12 bundles prepared for soldering stick out. Anyway, in any soldering box, it’s necessary to manipulate a hot crucible with molten solder, dressing it alternately at the ends of the twists, it will not work otherwise. In short, for installation it is a complete bullshit, and even dangerous in terms of burns.
In photo No. 3 there is another design, the fixation of the wire in the clothespin is not understood! scratch
