Coffee tamper is a manual press that is used to seal (tamp) ground coffee in an automatic coffee machine filter. The name of the accessory comes from the English term English “tamping”, in translation - “tamper”. Using temperament is an important process in making coffee. Temper presses coffee powder and forms a coffee tablet out of it. Through such a tablet, water seeps evenly. An even flow of water through the entire coffee mass ensures optimal extraction, and, consequently, the high quality of the finished drink.
Tempers are flat and convex, which, according to experts, also affects the quality of a coffee drink.
The master purchased an automatic coffee maker, but, unfortunately, there was no tempera in the kit, and since the prices for tamper were quite high, the master decided to make it himself.
Tools and materials:
-Lathe:
-Bandsaw machine;
-Calipers;
-Band sander;
-Kern;
-Tap;
-Drilling machine;
-Screw;
- Brass billet;
-Wooden blank;
-Sandpaper;
-Linseed oil;
-Clamp;
-Hacksaw;
Step One: Diameter
First, the master installs the brass billet in the lathe and grinds it to the desired diameter, in this case it is 51, 4 mm.
Step Two: Form
Next, the master cuts the workpiece to size. Then it installs it again in the lathe and gives it a convex shape, on the one hand. The result was a blank on one side, convex on the other. Now, if necessary, the master can use one or the other side of the tempera.
Step Three: Screw
To fix the handle on the side, the master drills a hole and cuts the thread. A screw is screwed into the hole.
Step Four: Pen
The master chose a good piece of pine board. Sawed off 11 cm.
Since he does not have a wood lathe, he used a belt sander to shape the handle. He turned the edges with a grinder, but then he realized that it would be much easier if you use a square piece of the workpiece and cut it with a saw.
Then he rounded the edges and narrowed the handle in one direction, while maintaining a square shape. At the end of the handle, the master machined a cylinder for installation in a hole in a brass billet.
Step Five: Build
Now it remains to install the handle in the brass billet, fix it with a screw and the tamper is ready.
Have a nice coffee.
