One of the most popular tools is a flat chisel, but it needs to be sharpened constantly.
In this article, the author of the bearded MASTER YouTube channel will tell you how to make simple device to simplify this task.

Recently, I have already described a similar device, but it is quite complicated to manufacture. You can find him in this article.
Materials
- steel strip
- M8 bolts, wing nuts
- Stud M12, nuts, washers
- Two bearings
- Spray paint
- Sandpaper.

Manufacturing process.
So, for starters, you will need two steel plates 60X30 mm. The author did not find a steel strip, so he cut blanks from the channel.



Then I cleaned them with a grinder with a petal disk.



Now I marked the future holes on the blanks for the bolts, they should be as close to the edge as possible.


He made holes using a stepped drill.


The author will use M8 bolts with such a flat hat.


In the workpiece, which will be the base, you need to drill holes so that the caps are slightly deepened.


Welds the bolt caps to the plate.

It cleans the welds, and these are the two details that have turned out. This is the base with clamping bolts, and the plate.




Now it is necessary to weld a stud with bearings mounted on it. This must be done as parallel as possible to the base plane.



This is such a moving base.



It remains to cover the parts of the device with spray paint.

That's all, the device is ready. It is advisable to stick thin strips of leather or cork on both pressure surfaces. This will prevent slipping of the tool, and damage to its surface.



A chisel is inserted into it, aligned with the angle of inclination of the blade relative to the surface, and vertically. Then the wing screws are clamped.




Now you can safely sharpen the chisel blade, without fear of violating the angle of sharpening, or deviation from the vertical. Of course, you need to know which grain number to start sharpening. It depends on the degree of wear of the blade.

For example, I’m far from being an “super-super megastar”, but I can easily grind the chisels and a mäsel on a regular homemade emery with motors from an old washer (activator), on which I have a wide diamond cup. The main thing here is two things: do not overheat (the “diamond” is too small - it does not grind, but rather “erases”) AND maintain the required angle ONCE. Then I polish GOI paste on another machine with a wide felt drum (there I already have a more powerful motor - from a water pump. When polishing "bad power" I need it, although many people think the other way around)))).
And everything turns out fine ... You can shave! ))) I check, by the way, sharpening just like that - by dragging an edge along the arm - if the hair shaves cleanly, then it's normal.)))
Somehow even my wife noticed that my left forearm is “bald”))). I had to shave the right one as well.)))

This is not sharpening, but a tool for sharpening.
His main task is to bring out the plane of the cutting edge.
Have you tried to chisel on the grinding wheel, and polish it on the stone? Even a super-super megabyte will do this for a long time. Perfectly smooth - only by hand.
If you need a chisel - to dig a hole, then yes, it will work. And the perfect tool to shave with will never work.
