Many of you like to watch fish in your own aquarium.
In this article, the author of The Q, a YouTube channel, will tell you how to make a very unusual add-on for an aquarium.
This homemade product is simple enough to make inhome conditions when using a minimum of tools.
Materials
- Acrylic glass
- Cosmofen PMMA Acrylic Adhesive
- Glue Cosmofen CA 12
- A piece of foam

- Hacksaw
- Ruler, marker, square.
Manufacturing process.
In recent article the master made a similar aquarium from a glass vase.
And if there is no glass vase, or is there a desire to make an additional tank for the aquarium, not cylindrical, but cubic? In addition, the author was not satisfied with the appearance of the foam block stand. They look too bulky, and hide the volume of the aquarium.
Then he decided to independently construct a tank of acrylic glass (plexiglass). To begin with, he picked up a decorative ceramic turret, which is above the top edge of the aquarium.
The future walls of the aquarium superstructure are marked on a sheet of plexiglass with a ruler and a permanent marker. You will need 2 plates with dimensions 230X450 and 210X300 mm for the side walls, as well as one 200X230 mm for the top cover. Then they are cut with a hacksaw.
Cyanoacrylate second glue (the author used Cosmofen CA 12), all the plates are glued together in such a sequence. First, a short side wall is glued to the cover. Using a square, the author helps himself set the perfect right angle.
Then long walls are glued, they will also be racks for the superstructure.
The last one is a short wall.
Finally, the master seals all the seams with special acrylic adhesive (Cosmofen PMMA).
This is what the finished add-in design looks like. The supports will be subjected to a load equal to the volume of water that will be in the superstructure above the general level of the aquarium. It is desirable to strengthen them, or to make three walls as supports. Of course, you can make a box with one open bottom, and cut holes in the walls with crowns.
Now you need a piece of foam. A hole is made in it through which a silicone tube is passed.
A plastic dome is immersed in an aquarium. A tube is inserted under it at the end on which there is a foam block.
Now you need to pump air from the top of the dome. Water will immediately begin to fill it. Do not forget to add water.
It remains to add long algae, and spread them in the superstructure.
Residents very quickly settled in the new room!
I repeat the recommendations from the past articles. Do not install the aerator under the superstructure; it will quickly fill with air. It is better to use a surface aerator and install it in another part of the aquarium. Note that if air gets under the dome, the entire volume of water will be in the aquarium, and overflow may occur over its edge.
When replacing water, or cleaning the aquarium, first lower the main level, preventing it from falling below the edges of the superstructure. Then, through the tube, let the air under the dome. After replacing the water, repeat the process of filling the add-in with water.
Thanks to the author for the simple but very interesting design of the two-level aquarium!
All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
