Plywood waste watch

Those who work a lot with plywood accumulate waste that is too small to be used in homemade. But everything changes if you glue them together, make the seams invisible, and then cut out the plate of the required shape and size. The author of Instructables under the nickname arman.hunanyan used this technique in the manufacture of the proposed wall clock.

The master cuts the same pieces out of plywood:

Glues them together:

Clamps and leaves to dry:

Glues pieces of solid wood on the sides, then clamps again and leaves to dry:

In the resulting workpiece, the master aligns the thickness over the entire area. Of course, at the cost of reducing this thickness by 5 mm. It was 40, it was 35.

Then the master cuts out a square - and now there are no glue seams visible, everything seemed to be so:

For the divisions (and there are only four of them - 3, 6, 9, 12 hours), the master cuts the notches:

He deliberately does not make these ditches so that they can be filled with epoxy resin. First, the master applies soil - a thin layer of transparent resin to the walls of the recesses, then, after polymerizing it (rather quickly - a variety is selected that hardens in 5 minutes), fill the recesses with epoxy painted with a mixture of black dye and red mica. This combination, according to the master, imitates granite. Which, unlike the present, is not radioactive.

But such a "granite" is too protruding. This master fixes by grinding - and now everything is on the same level. Well, he also polishes the ends at the same time.

The master applies mineral oil with a small amount of gray varnish. Fifteen minutes later, removes excess tissue. Leaves to dry for 24 hours, after which it applies a mixture of beeswax with orange oil, which slightly brightens the dial.

Done! The wizard adds the watch itself:

Here is the end result:

It remains to fix the clock on the wall in any of the generally accepted ways. And remove the second hand, so as not to betray that they are modern.

All this beauty has never been made by a carpenter: arman.hunanyan studied as a programmer, which he works with. So, you can repeat such a clock, no matter what your specialty.

Inspired, recalled literary classics. In those days, the aristocracy, having a "Breguet", generally measured the clock in quarters, "+" "-" they did not care for 10 minutes! smile
Looking at the last photo, I caught myself straining my brains, trying to understand what time the clock shows! Do I need this? scratch
