Good afternoon, dear friends and enthusiasts. Today, with great pleasure, I want to offer you to make a simple carpentry yourself device, without which, I’m sure, you absolutely cannot do without doing carpentry, a summer residence, building or home renovation.
A clamp, or more simply a clamp, is an auxiliary device that is used in carpentry and locksmithing, for rigidly fixing any workpieces and products in a certain position for processing or gluing.
There are an unimaginable variety of clamps. They are made of metal, plastic, wood of another material.
Today we’ll talk about a self-crimping joiner's clamp, a device that is the simplest to manufacture, but very necessary in work. Joiner's clamp is best made of wood, as a metal clamp can damage the workpiece and it will be necessary to constantly use protective jaws.
Clamps made of wood have a certain tensile strength, which is much lower than the tensile strength of clamps made of metal, but in the carpentry, in most cases, such a device will cope with the tasks assigned to it.
There is no need to tighten our self-clamping clamp made of wood, for further work, on the fixed part. To fix it, one hit on the upper part of the clamp with a hammer or a mallet will be enough for you and your workpiece will be firmly fixed on the desktop for further processing or gluing.
If you suddenly need to fix the workpiece in several places, then you will need to make several of these clamps. Due to the amazing simplicity of manufacturing, this will not be difficult for you.

Let's start the presentation of the idea of manufacturing a self-crimping clamp with a video instruction, using an example of a prototype:
Next, look at our tools necessary for the manufacture of the above fixtures:
- Drill, better drilling machine.
- Hacksaw, you can electric jigsaw.
- Vice joiner's or metalwork with sponges.
- Drill.
- Cutting machine.
- Grinding wheel for a cutting machine.
- Sandpaper.
- A hammer or mallet.
- Scissors or clerical knife.
- Clamp (Optional, crimp, when gluing the skin, the workpiece can be in a vice)
Of the tools, perhaps all.
Materials required in the manufacture of our clamp:
- The wooden block is rectangular.
- Round wooden blank.
- Glue for gluing wooden and leather products.
- A small piece of leather.
- Stain or varnish.
- Thompon made of cotton or other absorbent material.
- Electricity, quite a bit.
Device manufacturing procedure:
- Cut the bar of the right size (Watch the video or photo).
- We cut the bar in a certain way (Watch the video or photo).
- We process the bar with a grinding wheel of a cutting machine.
- We bring the bar to the grinding sand.
- We drill and rotate the bar at a certain angle as shown in the video.
- Cut off a round wooden block of the required size (Watch the video).
- Apply wood glue to the round bar, insert the part of the round bar treated with glue into the rectangular hole, and let the glue dry.
- Glue a piece of leather on the working part of the clamp, after the glue dries, remove the excess part of the skin with a clerical knife.
- We conduct a clamp operation check.
