DIY copper tube and wood rings

Hello dear readers andthe inhabitants of our site!
In this article, David, the author of YouTube channel Make Something, describes the process of creating such jewelry as an engagement ring. He will make two rings at once, and the material from which they will be made is copper and wood. Unusual, isn't it?

Materials
- copper pipe
- PVA glue
- Sandpaper
- masking tape
- Second glue.

Instruments, used by the author.
- Lathe
- pipe cutter
-, thicknesser, jointer
- Hand planer
- Workbench,
—
- A little machine for opening rings.

Manufacturing process.
David procured a 5/8 inch copper pipe. This is just the right size, slightly smaller than the diameter of the finger of the master and his wife (and the rings are meant for them!).

Rings always make a little less than required, because they are then stretched a little on a special stretching mechanism.

The author uses such a pipe-cutting machine and cuts a section of a copper tube with the desired width.

Then he subjects the workpiece to firing with a gas burner, and thereby releases the material a little. After that, he will lower the ring into the water.

Before you is a special device that allows you to determine the exact size of the ring, as well as stretch the ring to the required size. The workpiece is strung on this spire, and itself falls through to its diameter. Then, when the master begins to raise the stem, the nozzle opens slightly and the ring expands slowly until it acquires the desired diameter. It is important to turn the ring over.

After that, David strung both rings on a wooden landing round, on which the masking tape was wound before, in order to select the desired ring density. The round timber is fixed on the lathe.

The author brushes off the top layer of copper a little so that the surface becomes rough and a tree can be glued on it. This is ordinary sandpaper pasted on a wooden block.

Further, David picks up a hazel tree very beautiful in drawing. On a band saw, he cuts a flat board out of it, additionally drives it through the jointer to get the desired thickness.

Then he pastes on each side of the resulting workpiece one more plank of cherry wood. Fixes the workpiece with clamps.

Clamps the workpiece in a vice and removes the chips with a manual plane. This is how the picture on the ring will look.

He makes a couple more attempts and selects the most successful chip.

Now the author smears the outer circumference of the copper ring with second glue.
Then gently and fairly tightly winds the chips on a copper base. The very tip of the chip is additionally smeared with glue and pressed.

The ring is temporarily pasted with duct tape for fixation.

David then drips a little diluted cyanoacrylate glue onto the edge of the ring. Such glue easily penetrates into the wood and firmly glues it to the base.

After the glue hardens, the author overwrites the products on the grinding machine.

With a piece of thin sandpaper, the master wipes the inside of the rings, bringing them to a shine.

David carries out the processing of the outer side of the rings on a lathe with a chisel.

Grinding again.

In the end, the author again applies a thin layer of glue and rubs it with a piece of canvas.

On the inner surface of the products, the master applies this mixture with a brush, which is usually used by jewelers to coat various metals. This composition prevents the oxidation of the metal. Otherwise, copper, reacting with wet skin, will leave greenish marks on it.

Chips from not all kinds of wood are suitable for such rings; some varieties crumble very strongly.

I thank the author for the simple, but very original technology for making rings!

All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
