There are friends who consider any hollow object, even, for example, a ball, as a potential body of the column, imagine how it will look, sound, and if given the opportunity, do not hesitate to check in practice. The author of Instructables under the nickname houseofshamar, when he came across a wooden package from champagne, also did not miss the chance to a little bit polar and “teach” her to “sing”. When the resulting column is not used, it can be closed with a lid:
The master decides to apply in his homemade the so-called folded shout. There is already about him interesting story right on this site. But one more, on another site - theoretical, with formulas. By the way, the well-known megaphone is also a special case of a rolled-up speaker - the so-called reentrant.
The wizard starts with an empty box:
And the active column:
From which he takes an amplifier and a dynamic head:
The head magnet was placed on the screen, which was very useful when the monitors were picture tubes. Now you can remove it. Having done this operation, the master parses the box and cuts additional details:
Collects again, but does not install one of the side walls. Adds a shelf to accommodate the amplifier board:
Drills two holes, one in the shelf to let the conductors pass from the board to the dynamic head, and the second in the back wall for passing cables (signal and power) to the board:
It is possible to design a folded speaker even without calculations, and it will sound good, but with calculations it is even better. The wizard suggests using one of three programs for this: time, two, three. Which of them was used by the master, he does not inform. According to the design results, he cuts out the diagonal shelves and collects a folded speaker from them. These shelves may not be wooden. Joints must be sealed with glue or foam tape.
The master cuts out the front wall for fastening the dynamic head not to the entire height of the folded speaker, but in such a way as not to block the lower part, where the exit is. From above, he makes a hole for attaching a dynamic head:
Installs it:
Connects the head to the amplifier and sets the front wall in place:
And finally, checks the homemade:
Nearby has a removable cover (full-time, which the box already had) to close the column when not in use.So, dust will not accumulate inside the rolled-up horn, which is difficult to remove even without a vacuum cleaner to remove the front wall.
A feature of such a speaker system with a rolled-up horn is a reduction in distortion with a certain distance of the listener from the speaker. It is necessary that the sound waves reach the listener both from the front diffuser of the head and from the mouth of the mouth. The column can be supplemented with legs of any design.
