If you recently made repairs and used a laminate, then you most likely left pieces that are a pity to throw out, and take up space. In this simple MK, I suggest that you make hot dishes from the leftovers. After all, usually, a laminate has a very beautiful pattern, which looks much more advantageous than an ordinary tree, even if covered with wood stain. And even if there are no residues, you can buy a sheet in the store, with us it will cost about 150 rubles.
Tools and materials we need:
- Electric jigsaw
- Laminate
- pen or pencil
- Stencil for a circle, you can use a plate
- Sandpaper
- Acrylic varnish
First, imagine what size we want to have. I had old hot coasters that terribly burst from frequent washing. I have long wanted to get rid of them, but in the stores I did not find what sunk into the soul. Since our kitchen is in gray and white, we looked for coasters like that. As a result, looking at the perfect pattern on the laminate, I realized what I would like to have.
If you don’t have anything remarkable at hand, the plates will serve as a form. Choose the appropriate size, and, with a pen or a pencil, draw circles on the back of the laminate in the required quantity. I ended up making four of them, but since there are often guests who are not averse to drinking tea in the kitchen, in the future I plan to increase the number.
After our circles are outlined, take a jigsaw and start cutting. I use a special curly file for wood, with small teeth. When I was just starting to learn to hold a jigsaw in my hands, it was a mystery to me how to make a beautiful curly cut. It turned out the whole thing is in the file. The correct nail file will calmly go in a circle, will not tear the material and leave ugly edges.
In order to cut out at least one circle, I needed a little effort. I do everything slowly, carefully, trying to walk clearly along the line. In general, everything turned out quite smoothly, although it took some time. After cutting out each stand, I take a short break. The jigsaw is already old, let it rest, and your hands get tired. I must clarify that the dust from the cuts is noticeable, and it is better to use special glasses, as all this gets into your eyes.
After we all cut out in the right amount, the edges of the coasters need to be sanded. They are almost even, but the skin will never be superfluous. I use an iron mesh, number 120. Cut a piece from it, and lightly draw along the edges. If everything suits you, then wipe the whole thing with a damp cloth and you can proceed to the next step.
I have already mentioned that my previous coasters slowly began to turn to dust, due to contact with water. But sometimes coffee, tea, or something else is sometimes poured onto them. In general, active water procedures are indispensable. Since I want to keep these coasters for as long as possible, due to the fact that these are my favorite colors, and even made with my own hands, I made a logical conclusion - to protect with varnish. Especially the edges, it is not known how they will behave after water.
I use acrylic matte varnish for exterior and interior use, it says that it is suitable for wood. You can take glossy, but I do not like it when it is very shiny.
Shake the varnish well. If you have a drill and a nozzle, then it is better to make it a drill, otherwise all the dullness may remain at the bottom of the can.
After shaking the varnish well and thoroughly, take a brush and carefully pass the edges. At the same time, I decided to go along the top of the stand, it will not be superfluous. Go down, there is no need, but if you really want to, then you can. Most importantly, make sure that there is not much varnish, we smear boldly, but then with a brush we wipe away all the smudges. It’s better to sit and watch for a while, drips are likely to appear.
After I applied the first coat, I waited several hours to dry well and applied the second. The most important thing is to protect the edges. After applying the second layer, wait at least a day. If you have a varnish of another company, then read the information on the bank, how long it will take to fully dry.
Now we put the coasters so as not to hurt, and let them dry quietly.
After a day, I cautiously begin to use. I make hot coffee and enjoy my work :) Thank you for your attention.
