It is advisable to start the alteration if the original scissor handles are broken. But if they are uncomfortable, you can not wait. The master takes up the dremel and separates them, making sure not to touch the metal in a visible place. Otherwise, the track will ruin the appearance of the scissors.
The master will make new pens from three layers of plywood. The middle layer should be slightly thicker than those parts of the scissors that are held inside the handles. Also, the master decides to apply plywood of various types. For the outer layers - beech, for the middle - pine.
The master cuts all layers according to the same template. To do this, he takes a jigsaw - not an electric one, because the work is too delicate, but a classic, manual, school one. I had it in childhood, and I used it not only at labor lessons, but also for my own pleasure - that rare case when the theme of the lesson coincides with what is interesting to myself. As it turned out, this is a very necessary “clothespin” with which it is more convenient to work with a jigsaw. But the master does not have it - that means he bought the jigsaw separately, and not as part of such a set.

To assemble pens of three layers, the master uses double-sided tape, but it is better, of course, to use PVA glue. The master handles the finished handles first with a dremel with a grinding nozzle, then manually with sandpaper, gradually increasing the grindness: 60, 120, 240, 400. It is not recommended to grind the handles after putting them on the scissors: again, you can touch the metal where it is visible . This is one of the ready-made pens:
The master glues the handles to the scissors with epoxy. Here, PVA glue is no longer suitable, since it requires both surfaces to be porous. You can even conduct an experiment: try to glue two surfaces with this glue, one of which is porous, and the second is not. After the glue hardens, they can be easily separated from each other, and a copy of the non-porous relief will remain on the porous surface.
In general, wood to metal is epoxy. To prevent anything from shifting, the master applies clamps separated from the handles with masking tape. It is necessary to remove excess resin from the metal before it hardens - then it will be more difficult to do.
After waiting for the epoxy acid to harden, the master removes the clamps and masking tape, and then wraps them with the metal parts of the scissors so that they do not get varnish. He looks to see if there is any resin left on the plywood, he polishes it if necessary. Apply several layers of transparent glossy varnish. Allows each layer to dry completely, lightly polishes it with 1000 grit sandpaper, and then applies the next. And this is what happens:
