The simplest quick-detachable studded shelves

Hello dear readers!

From the article below you will learn how to do it yourself assemble the shelves on the stud connection. The following description and instructions are taken from the Matthias Wandel YouTube channel.

This type of shelves is the fastest to manufacture (with the necessary tools) and the most elegant in appearance.

Necessary materials and tools:

- table saw;
- pantorouter;
- PVA glue;
- board 50x150x2400 mm.
- trim boards, 30 mm thick.
- shelves from the old cabinet;

First, the master prepared the necessary material. It was a board 150x50 mm and 2.4 m long. He sawed it in half into two bars.

These bars will be the supporting elements for the future rack. Since he planned to install this rack in the basement, the bars had to be shortened, since the height of the ceilings there is slightly lower than 2.4 m.

For cross cutting, he used special sleds for table saws.

Every 34 cm, the master noted the lines along which the shelves will be attached.

He also noted on which side of the line the groove should go, because it is easy to cut on the wrong side of the line.

The master set the bar and chisel of the mortising machine on one line, and the carriage of the machine moved to the right until it stops.

Additionally fixing the bars with a clamp, the master cut out the required number of grooves.

Since the workpiece (in this case, the beam) is stationary and only the cutter of the mortising machine moves, the master does not need to worry about the long transport of the workpiece, which creates too much load on the table.

Then the master sawed horizontal blanks for shelf holders.

These blanks must be sanded so that they fit snugly into the grooves that are cut in the bars.

Equipment for the manufacture of spikes can be any. For example, a simple tray that is mounted on a sleigh for a table saw ...

... or maybe a commercial tray ....

... the master often uses his own invention.

But in this case, the master decided to make spikes on his home-made pantorouter.

Setting up a pantorouter is more complicated, because for each new connection size a template is required.

The required spike is ready, the ends are already rounded.

Fit Check - just make sure the size is right. After fine tuning the pantorouter, the spikes come out very similar to each other.

After that, the master washed down all the shelf supports a little at an angle. To get the right angle, the master made a template. This is just a small block pressed at an angle to the sleigh of a table saw. The master also drilled a hole near the end of the bar to press it harder, and also cut the bar at an appropriate angle.

To hold the workpiece while it is being sawed, the master uses a pushing stick.

It is very important to apply glue both on the spike and in the groove. Applying glue to only one part may result in poor bonding.

Bonding the shelf holders to the support bars.

As shelves, the master used shelves from a bookcase, which he had to dismantle as unnecessary. Shelves to bars, the master did not begin to fasten. Apparently not for the need.

The shelves were strong enough. You can even stand on their feet.

Ready shelves.

The final location of these shelves is a small pantry in the basement of the master.
