For desktop and wall clocks - those that use "clock" - such an algorithm has been implemented repeatedly. Two virtual players purposely pass the ball at those moments when it is necessary to increase the reading of hours or minutes by one. And the author of Instructables under the nickname Andrew Hannay did the same in watches - those that are "watch".

The master will collect homemade in the case of modern large LED wrist watches purchased at eBay for 99 English pence. The translator has a similar watch, purchased on the Avito website for 50 rubles. The master removes the clock module from the case, and it turns out that in size it is very close to the PMOLED display, which is often used in conjunction with Arduino.








But the master is not going to use Arduino in the homemade product, but the PIC12F1840 eight-pin microcontroller. The source of the firmware that implements the "hours playing with themselves," he puts here. The program is designed for compilation in the MPLAB X environment. The PICKIT3 programmer exchanges data with the microcontroller through the same outputs to which the display is connected, so you have to connect one or the other in turn. The wizard first uploads and tests a simple test program, and then a compiled hourly firmware. Everything works.




To make the PMOLED display fit into the watch case, the master had to file a little plastic case. The translator has a similar watch in a metal case.If you repeat the design, and you come across a watch in such a case, you will have to somehow isolate the display from it. As you can see, the new display in the watch looks as if it has always been there.






There is not enough space in the watch, so instead of making the board, the master crams the microcontroller onto the existing riser board on the back of the PMOLED display. Quartz? And there will be no quartz there. Watches operating from the RC generator built into the microcontroller will not be accurate, but if adjusted every day, everything is fine.





Then the master glues the buttons to the display board and connects them to the microcontroller. Information on where to connect the buttons and the display is given directly in the file with the firmware source. There will be three buttons. The fourth pusher in the watch case will not be used, but it will not fall out, since it is spring loaded. However, then you will see what the master will do with it. In the original, four buttons were not used very efficiently. Both left buttons simply included all segments.



From the charge controller board, the master removes the unnecessary LEDs, transfers the capacitors closer to the microcircuit, and reduces the board itself and glues it to the display adapter board, and then connects it.





Having placed all this in the watch case, the master installs the Micro USB connector instead of the fourth button pusher and connects it to the charge controller:






The master connects a 052025 battery to the charge controller. In this name, it is not the capacity that is encrypted, but the dimensions: 5x20x25 mm. Then the watch cover can be closed. The master has a watch with a lid on the screws, the translator has a latch.




The clock is ready, and if you do not forget to charge and adjust it every day, they will tirelessly play with themselves around the clock. And all your colleagues will think that you have a smart watch with such a stylish screen saver - allusions to vintage are now in fashion. And they will stop pestering you with questions: "why does everyone already have a smart watch, but you don’t have one yet?"
