Adding light and sound effects to an old toy starship

The author of Instructables under the nickname lonesoulsurfer purchased for $ 2 an old toy starship. He already wanted to wash the toy and give it to his nephews, but decided to add a scheme to it for receiving light and sound effects.

Perhaps the most difficult thing with such a rework is to find enough space to accommodate all the components. But the master copes with this. For the manufacture of homemade he takes:

1. Any old toy without light and sound effects (before the alteration, the master recommends to look on the net if it is vintage):

2. Electronic components (not all shown):

3. Battery and charge controller:

The master parses the starship, launders and dries all its parts:

Makes a diagram of the device of light and sound effects and spreads Fritzing program file format. It also exports an image from the program (yes, from there you can export not only assembly diagrams, but also circuit diagrams):

Having estimated what sizes a piece of a package board like perfboard will be required, the master saws it off, and then proceeds to assemble the part of the circuit responsible for the lighting effects:

And then - and the part that is responsible for sound effects:

Since the master solders well, for what it puts the microcircuit on the panel, it is not clear. And here he proceeds to connect to the wire board:

Instead of the long-lost “missiles,” it installs LEDs in suitable caps on the toy:

He finds a part on the toy that is great for placing the switch, and sets it there. It turns out right as if he was there initially.

Installs LEDs with resistors to simulate jet propulsion of a spaceship:

Finds places to place variable resistors that regulate the frequency of light and sound effects, and sets them:

And here it puts the LEDs with built-in chips for blinking, adding resistors to them:

Drills holes for sound output and glues the dynamic head:

Adds a sound switch, similar in purpose to the Mute button on the TV remote, so that children can play late at night:

It connects everything, remembering that LEDs are polar components:

It adds a battery and a charge controller, remembering that both are polar components:

Fixes everything that otherwise could move during the manipulation of children with a toy. He checks, makes sure that everything works, and closes the case so that nothing is closed, and vice versa, do not tear:

A toy starship with light and sound effects is ready.
