An easy way to bend wood

Hello dear readers andthe inhabitants of our site!
Some of you are engaged in various carpentry works that require the creation of bent wooden structural elements.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel "StoDel_56" will tell you how to bend the lamellas in a small workshop.

These will be arched risers, and the author will need them to complete the design of the wooden staircase.
Materials
- Pine boards
- Packing tape
- Wood screws
- Varnish, stain
- PVA glue
- Sandpaper.

Instruments, used by the author.
—  Clamps
—  Band-saw
—  Screwdriver
- Miter saw
—  Orbital sander
- Jointer, planer
- Atomizer
- Pencil, compass.

Manufacturing process.
First of all, he processes the board on a band saw, and levels one of the surfaces on the jointer.

Now the board unfolds into three wide and thin lamellas about 5 mm thick.

After processing, such defects may occur. Both surfaces of lamellas are processed on a surface gage.

These blanks turned out here, they are very flexible, and have a thickness of 4 mm.

Further, the master marks on the lower part of the finished wooden step the distance to the rear wall of the riser. For this, a pair of compasses, or a marking gage, is suitable. This distance consists of the size of the overhang of the step (30 mm) and the thickness of the riser, which will be composed of three lamellas (12 mm).

In order that the manufactured riser does not stick to the step itself, the author protects it with a packing film.

From the scraps from the boards, he made such bars that will be the main emphasis for the bent part. Since all steps have their own individual size, it makes no sense to create a separate conductor. The master screws the stops to the bottom of the step.

Then he selects the lamellas in length, they should be slightly larger than the necessary details.

PVA glue is applied to two lamellas on one side, and spread evenly with a brush.

One edge of the riser is fixed with a clamp to the stop, then a bend is made, the central part is fixed, and the second edge. After that, the author pulls together the product layers with additional clamps.
As some masters say, there are few clamps!

It is extremely important from the outside of the part to make linings for the sponges of clamps from scraps of boards, pieces of plywood, thick light skin or other soft material.
Why do you need to do this? Hard sponges poorly distribute the force on the surface, and will inevitably leave dents on soft wood, especially when it is also saturated with glue.

After the glue hardens, the master removes the products, and fixes them in long clamps for several days. So they will completely dry, and retain their arcuate shape.

The author was busy with other things, and only five days later he took off the blanks and worked their edges on the thicknesser. Also trimmed the ends along the length of the bend of the steps. When processing on a miter saw, it is important to take into account the angle at which the edge of the riser will dock with the wall. Otherwise, you can miss, and the product will have to be redone.

All surfaces of the risers are polished with an orbital machine, and the ends are processed manually with sandpaper.

Now, two layers of stain are applied to the front side. This can be done with a brush or spray gun.

Before applying varnish, sand the surface with fine sandpaper. In this way, the raised pile is removed. It is also possible, and sometimes necessary, to polish the penultimate coat of varnish.

So, the risers and steps are ready, they can be taken to the object.

And here is a finished and assembled staircase.

I thank the author for a simple but useful way to bend wood!

Using the same method, it is also possible to produce spiral parts.

All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
