Homemade manufacturing process:
Step one. Preparation of a wooden base
As a basis, the author used a piece of the trunk of an old tree. The core of the tree rotted, so the author carefully cut it out so that nothing would fall.
Now we have to make markings for numbers, the author does everything manually, using the compass. You can make markup with a clockwork with arrows, or you can download it from the Internet and print the finished template. As numbers, the author decided to make circles in the tree of epoxy resin. To solve the problem, we take a drill and drill a recess with a drill, which we then fill with resin.
Step Two Formwork
We make the formwork, which will fill in the epoxy resin. For these purposes, we need sheet acrylic, from it we make the “bottom”, cut out the desired piece and glue it to the tree with hot glue.
In the central part of the dial there should be a place for installing the clockwork. To form such a niche, the author made another rectangular formwork made of acrylic and placed it in the center. To immediately get a hole for the clockwork rod, the author glued a piece of a wooden rod, wrapping it with tape.
Step Three Resin filling
We mix the resin with the dye to your taste, the author dilutes the resin by weight, using the exact electronic Libra. If you want the resin to glow in the dark, add luminous powder, which can be ordered from China.
Those places where the resin will be poured, be sure to brush the resin with a brush, this minimizes the number of bubbles. That's all, now pour the resin into the formwork. To minimize bubbles, first put a glass with resin in a vacuum chamber, or expel the bubbles after pouring a hairdryer.
Step Four Treatment
As soon as the resin hardens, we pull out the dowel, and also break the internal formwork from acrylic, as a result we get space for installing the clockwork. The author polished the plane of the dial with an orbital machine to a smooth state. Now the resin needs to return transparency, for this purpose the author uses wood oil. Also, thanks to such a coating, we can highlight all the beauty of wood.
Step Five Assembly
To install the clockwork, you need to drill a little hole for the diameter of the rod. Well, then we use a mechanism with a suitable rod length and fasten it with a nut and washer. So that the stem does not protrude much, you can put a gasket or washers under the clockwork.
In conclusion, the author finalized the hands in accordance with the style of the watch. We clean the arrows with sandpaper so that the epoxy adheres well to them. The author used a quick-drying resin, which hardens under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. We add dye to the resin, as well as a luminous powder. Now the watch is ready, everything looks amazing!
