House number plate made of available materials

An interesting plate with the number of your apartment or house will not go unnoticed by your beloved guests. It is especially nice when this plate can be made with minimal waste, from a piece of board. If you just do not have such a sign near your front door, then I suggest you look at such a simple and original version.

Tools and materials:
- A piece of board
- Electric jigsaw
- Sander
- Stain, you can combine dark and lighter
- brush
- Acrylic varnish
- Push pins
- gloves, optional
- Sandpaper
- Any adhesive tape, adhesive tape, about 20mm wide.

You may need:
- drill
- rope
- glue
- Threads, preferably in the color of the rope
- Sawdust, or putty for wood, in case the tree has flaws

And so, let's start by determining the size of the future plate. I had just such a board, I decided that this is just the optimal size. Width - 100mm, length - 310mm and 350mm.

You can choose a different size and shape, which will be more convenient for you.
I decided to add notches along the edges of the board to make it more interesting. We make an approximate markup, and cut out the recesses with a jigsaw.

You can also try to round the corners. Since I do not have good professional tools available, I will do it with a jigsaw. I just hold the jigsaw at an angle, and cut off the corners on the front.

Absolutely perfectly evenly it is not necessary to do it. Firstly, it won't work with a jigsaw, and secondly, our tablet will be a little brutal, and every corner here is absolutely not necessary to “lick”. In addition, handmade is very popular now, which has its own personality.

Here is what happened.

Now, you need to grind it from all sides. Large sticking pieces can be torn off with your hands, the rest with a grinder.

If sharp corners are formed during the cutting process, they must be “erased”. It is advisable to make soft transitions. I was afraid that the machine might not be able to climb everywhere, but fortunately, you can get it almost everywhere. If, in some corner it is still difficult to crawl with a machine, then you can try it with your hands.

Since there are flaws on my board, in the form of holes from nails, they need to be coated. To do this, I mixed wood shavings with pva glue.

Holes can be covered with this mass, however, complete masking is difficult to achieve.

To glue dry faster, you can put in a warm place. After drying, you will need to go through a grinding machine. It turned out somehow.

After grinding, wipe the plate with a damp cloth, and can be painted.

For painting, I decided to combine two colors, for a more interesting result.
To begin with, I painted the tablet with a black stain.

After complete drying, it will be necessary to grind still. It is advisable to erase the top layer of black stain. Then the dark will remain only in the recesses.

After that, we cover the board with a lighter color. As a result, it turns out that in some places the pattern remains dark, and in other places brighter. This adds saturation.

When the stain is dry, I decided that I would attach it to the wall with a rope. Prior to this, I considered the option of attaching to the wall itself using self-tapping screws, this will protect the tablet from hooligans. But then I wanted to add a rope, therefore, I would need to make two holes at the top. It would be advisable to take this step before painting.

When the holes are ready, they need to be sanded a little (if required), and preferably painted.
Now you can make numbers. For them, I purchased the stationery buttons in gold. They are very cheap, in the region of 15r. per pack.

The number I need to do is 105. I didn’t want to do complicated calculations to perfectly fit the numbers using a bunch of tables and rulers. To begin with, I figured that the size of the numbers would be five buttons in height, and four in width. And about laid them out on the board. Width in mm - 40, height - 50mm.

Helping myself with a tape measure and ribbon, I made three floors for the numbers.

Then, pasted the tape on the sides. It’s in these little squares that I need to fit the numbers.

I started to spread from below.

One by one, lay out all the numbers.

If the buttons do not fit well into the tree, then you can knock out a little with a hammer. But it’s better not to overdo it, the hammer can leave ugly marks on the hats.
Sometimes the buttons can go higher or lower, then they are almost impossible to get to move a little.

When the desired number is laid out, you can varnish. I cover with matte acrylic varnish. Two layers are enough. The drying time of each layer is at least an hour.

Now, if desired, you can wind the rope. If you are worried that unscrupulous comrades will remove it from you, then it is better to screw it directly to the wall more reliably. I don’t have such a problem, because it will hang in a closed vestibule.
The tip of the rope can be wrapped with tape or duct tape to make it easier to stretch.

When the rope is inserted into both holes, you need to fasten the ends together.

To do this, you can use glue and thread.
The rope should be a little loose at the edges and apply glue.

Then, with your fingers, try twisting the two ends.

Holding the junction with your fingers, you need to wrap this thing with threads, preferably matching in color. Twist and tie.

Cut the ends of the thread.

When the glue dries, the joint must be moved under the shelf so that it is not visible.
That's all. We screw a self-tapping screw into the wall, and hang it. Thanks for attention.
