Perhaps many of you have seen adapters, where on the one hand is the base of the bulb, and on the other hand is an ordinary outlet.
Such an adapter can help a lot in cases where you need to connect some tool, and from sources of electricity there is only a light bulb. So I had such a case. The garbage chute loop has broken. I decided to fix it, but my extension cord turned out to be short and I did not manage to power the drill. Then I remembered this adapter and decided to make myself one. But its functionality is very limited, so I upgraded it a little.
To make the adapter I need:
- working LED bulb
- the wire
- portable socket
So, I take a light bulb and remove the plastic diffuser. Then I rent a board with LEDs. It was glued with some kind of sealant around the perimeter, so I had to cut it with a knife.
Carefully take out the board and set it aside.
You need to find where the contacts are located. I marked them with red circles.
There is free access to the side contact, but it’s problematic to climb to the bottom. To do this, I drilled the base of the bulb. You need to drill carefully so as not to break off the soldered contact inside the bulb.
Then I take a plastic lampshade and make a hole for the wire. After that, I pull the wire into the hole, strip the wires and the puddle with solder.
Now you need to stick one of the wires into the hole that I drilled in the base. Be patient, the first attempt to get into the hole is very problematic. I solder the wires.
After soldering, on the bulb base, there was an excess of solder. I take a file and clean the surface.
I proceed to the final assembly. I need to insert a board with LEDs in its place, but the soldered wire interferes with me, so I make a small cutout. When installing the board, do not reverse polarity.
It is time to test my adapter. I screw the bulb into the base and turn on the drill.
Everything works fine! As a result, I have a working light bulb and a full extension cord. When using, be careful not to pull the cable out of the bulb.
Here is such a simple and useful homemade I did it. You can see more details in the video.
Thanks for attention.
