Dieter Rams’s rule “good design means as little design as possible” is very popular with the authors. Instructables and ace101193 are no exception. Less "excesses in design and construction" (remember, where does this come from?) - means less and unnecessary work, faster and more accurate result. Well, what could be more minimalistic than a cube? Apart from the ball, perhaps, nothing, but this time the master was drawn to a cube.
Homemade it can be a lamp or a night lamp, depending on the brightness of the lamp, but in any case it is necessary to use an LED. The master chooses a smoothly changing color, but this is an amateur.
The master makes a plywood base, in which there is also nothing superfluous. No additional decorative elements, no patterns, except for the natural texture of plywood (which Dieter Rams just admitted, remember Braun Tischsuper RT20). Only simple forms: a square (the base itself) and a circle (a hole in it, designed to pass the cord). The master attaches the lamp holder to the base and connects a cord with a plug and a switch to it.
The master makes the side walls and chamfers them at 45 °, as shown below. The lamp holder temporarily removes from the base and glues the walls, while gluing them together with chamfers to each other. If you glue everything carefully, preventing glue (for example, PVA) from getting under the cartridge, you can not remove it.
The master cuts out the side walls from plexiglass. He selects the dimensions so that the cube fits tightly into the base.
Applies a matte coating on the inner surfaces of the walls, glues the cube, tries on the base - fits.
The following steps are not shown. The master makes the top cover of the cube from plexiglas, applies a similar matte coating to its inside and also glues it. Removes tape. Also makes legs and sets them on the underside of the base. Replaces the cartridge with a cord, plug and switch. The fact that the cord is fixed so that the fastener does not damage the insulation does not tell, but this must be done. And here is the finished result:
So with minimal labor, combining classic plywood and high-tech polymer, you can get a very expressive result.
