A luminaire from CDs has not surprised anyone for a long time. Make them do it yourself many. But should they be limited? The author of Instructables under the nickname AwabHassan, looking for a memory card in the drawers of the table, found floppies there. Why are they worse than CDs, he thought. And he made a lamp of them.
The master prepares components, tools and materials for the manufacture homemade. Pay attention to the stripper, this is a very convenient thing. When stripping wires without it, you have to pull for them, which is not always permissible. With it, you can strip the wire without pulling it. With the help of the force regulator, it is possible to ensure that the stripper does not bite part of the wires from the stranded wire.
If there is a drive, incl. external, connected via USB, you can make backup copies of data available on floppy disks. If, of course, it works, they may not be readable. But the master did not need the data. He selects among the floppy disks those which transmit light well. These are mainly disks of later releases, after which their production was closed forever. They are also of poor quality, often with bad sectors right out of the box. You can additionally increase the luminous efficiency of a lamp if magnetic disks proper are removed from the disk enclosures. You can also drill many holes in opaque diskettes. But the master simply selects among the floppy disks only transparent ones and does not modify them at all.
Gathers a cube from floppy disks, gluing them with hot-melt adhesive and adding staples for stapler for extra rigidity.
To attach the floppy disk, which will be the top cover, the master glues the door hinge:
Sets the lamp holder and screw in a 15-watt incandescent lamp. But he soon refuses such a decision, as the structure begins to melt.
A completely different thing is a homemade USB powered LED illuminator.
The master photographs the lamp in the dark:
And in the light:
... and the old floppy disks, like designer details, fold into a cozy piece of furniture.
