Laptop stand with fans

Yes, such a stand can be purchased ready-made, but made do it yourself more interesting. Let's see which homemade It turned out from the author Instructables under the nickname Peaches and Plums.

The master acquires standard computer fans with a diameter of 120 mm and grilles for them. Homemade grills can also be used. The wizard also shows which wires to use to power the fan. The output of the tachometer in the proposed design is not used.

Determines which way the fans blow air - in the stand they must take it from the bottom and direct it up.

The wizard selects from which source to power the fans. He writes that 5 V from USB is not enough, but his 15 V PSU is just right. But this is not so, in forced mode, the fans will not last long. They are designed for 12 V, and to obtain such a voltage, there is a ready-made solution - numerous power supplies designed for routers. Such sources are compact and have a margin of load capacity, which, depending on the type of power supply, is from 1 to 2 A. In the proposed stand, two parallel fans consume about 0.3 A.

The master sets the standard switch for the lamp so that it switches the PSU output. It should be borne in mind that after turning off the fans, the PSU continues to be powered from the mains and idling, consuming little power. In order to install a switch in the primary circuit of a power supply unit to disconnect it completely, it is necessary to have the qualification of an electrician.

Marks the size of the top panel and the location of the fans on it. Marks a rectangle on the side, from which it then cuts out the side walls. Cut the top panel and the holes in it, install the fans.

The rectangle mentioned above divides into two parts diagonally, receiving side panels. In one of them makes a recess under the switch, which sets there.

Attaches and secures components. Glues all wooden parts together, clamps with a variety of clamps and waits for the glue to harden completely.

Seals fans and circuit breaker with masking tape.It polishes the wood with sandpaper 150 to 200 grit, completely removes the resulting dust, varnishes the surface. After the varnish has completely dried, it removes masking tape and the stand is ready. For her to cope with her task, it is necessary that he has all the legs in place. If at least one of them is missing, you need to stick homemade, at least carved from the eraser.

Modern software allows you to determine how well the device cools the laptop.

Keep in mind that the use of such coasters does not exempt from the need to service the built-in laptop cooling system.

I would add a filter so that the dust does not fly so much into the laptop ...
the stand can be purchased ready-made, but it’s more interesting to make it yourself
I agree, but I chose the finished one as the basis.
He writes that 5 V from USB is not enough ... But this is not so
I agree that 12 volt and from USB work perfectly, completely silently, and if you initially choose with high speeds, then when powered by USB, they create a decent air flow. I initially did multifunctional, stuck in the stand and the PSU of the laptop itself, and decent acoustics (compared to the built-in, of course), and powerful charging with USB outputs, and a decent USB HUB, there are always not enough USB ports in laptops. It turned out not just a stand, but a kind of dock - station, but it is very convenient on business trips, hotels, and most importantly for me - in the hospital room! Now I’m thinking about how to spind on it folding legs for working lying in intensive care (just kidding about resuscitation) and a retractable mouse stand, I don’t like the touch pad! yes

Done well. But it’s not clear why the author didn’t use the switch at once to turn on the power, to walk - so in full smile
