And so, a knife can be forged from any piece of metal, or you can just crush everything with a grinder and put on a handle that's all. There are a lot of things to buy on the market for creating a knife, you can buy a piece of metal and wood for a pen and that’s all, but this is also considered a knife. There are less and less masters who create their knives completely themselves. Our author also went the easy way and bought a strip of metal from high speed steel and decided to make a knife out of it.
High-speed steel is used for the manufacture of cutters, drills, saw blades. This steel can harden up to 65 units. It has good red resistance, is used for the manufacture of hiking and hunting knives.
The author cuts the desired size of the workpiece and welds a stud for attaching the handle, polished the contour of the knife
Then he proceeds to the removal of the wedge, than he just did not try - it takes a very slow tempering metal of 60 units. After a couple of hours, the author decided to process everything manually with an abrasive stone of different grit.
For bolster, he took aluminum, and for the handle of a knife he took different types of wood, which was at hand and arranged everything. Trying everything in its place. After trying on, the author spreads epoxy glue, and having missed everything thoroughly, glues everything in its place, and screw the head of the handle onto the welded stud. After drying, grinds the entire handle to the desired shape.
Now the author impregnates the handle with linseed oil at 80 ° C, about an hour after that, the author proceeds to sharpen the knife. The stone erases very quickly against the blade, and he decided to stick paper with different grains on the plywood, and sharpened it to a razor tip. Now polishes the blade in the mirror
Then he sewed the scabbard from the skin of the deputy, and the whole knife is ready.
The knife turned out strong, it sits for a long time. The author tried to use a knife in home conditions and it was decided that the knife will be used as a camping knife.
This is how you can make a good beautiful knife from a finished piece of metal hardened.Although for me: I would first burn the metal so that it loses its hardening, because the hardened metal is very hard to process - this is a waste of time. And after grinding, it would have already hardened the metal and let it go then, it would have saved the time of nerves, well, and abrasive materials. C'mon, the author himself knows what to do - he did it all right.
