Using similar homemade you can also dig potatoes. The width of the manufactured shovel is 60 cm, this is the capture of the shovel during digging. Homemade manufacturing process:
Step one. Forging rods
The author decided to make the working rods of the machine by forging; automobile suspension springs were used as a material. The advantage of this material is that with proper heat treatment, the rods will not bend even under heavy load, they will spring. Plus, using such material is a good way to save.
The author cut the spring into pieces, and then, by heating, he bent into the rods. The length of the rods was about 32 cm. The author made the ends of the working rods that go into the ground sharp by forging. Of course, after forging, the rods need to be hardened and released, only then will the steel spring, but the author did not show us this step.
Step Two Putting the foundation together
The base of the shovel is assembled from the corner, as a result, two frames should be obtained, rods, working and persistent, are attached to each frame. At the end, both frames are articulated. The author made hinges from the corner, it is important to use strong studs as axles, ordinary bolts will be quickly erased.
Also, do not forget to round the edges of the corner on the lower "jaw", otherwise the structure will cling to the ground.
Step Three A pen
We make a handle from pipes, we choose the length depending on our height, but we do not forget that the longer the lever, the easier it will work with a shovel. The author bent the pens from the pipes and welded them; pieces of rubber hose can be put on at the place where the hands come in contact.
Now the homemade product is ready, in the end we will surely paint everything, the tool will be easy to wash, and will not rust when in contact with wet ground. Well, then lower the handle, the rods rise, thereby breaking the ground. Thus, the loosening of the earth occurs, which makes it suitable for planting and so on.
