Hello dear the inhabitants of our site and site visitors. In this article, I present to your attention an extension cord in a case made of a plastic canister, which was made by the author of the YouTube channel Hobi Market.
For the manufacture of this homemade product, the author used the following tools and materials:
plastic canister
- a piece of plastic pipe,
-cable,
screwdriver and crown,
-bolt with nuts and nuts,
self-tapping screws
metal plate
-glue,
- a small piece of PVC tube,
-saw,
-socket, plug.
In order for you to do something similar for yourself, first you need to determine the cable length, i.e. how long you want it to be. Based on this, you will need to choose a canister of the appropriate size.
Step 1.
The author takes the canister and finds centers in its two side walls. Then, using a screwdriver, drills holes. Then, around this hole, applying a plug for the pipe, it circles in a circle. Then drill a crown with a diameter of 51 mm. holes in two walls. Since the author originally wanted to use a crown for this purpose, in my opinion, manipulations with the drill could not be carried out. In almost every crown there is a guide drill. With the second wall, by the way, he did so.
I inserted the plug, made sure that it is inserted into the hole obtained freely, without touching the edges of the walls.
Step 2
Having measured the inner space between the walls with a tape measure, the author takes a plastic pipe and cuts off from it a part equal to the length between the inner walls of the canister. Now this part needs to be slightly modified. A plug will be inserted into this handset on one side, and a socket will be installed on the other. Both the socket and the plug have a diameter equal to the length of the pipe, so it must be increased to fix the parts in the pipe. To do this, the author heats the ends on a fire. The heat makes the walls soft and the author easily increases the diameter by simply inserting a plug. After cooling, the walls have the desired internal diameter.
Step 3
Now you need to prepare the rest of the extension cord.From the outlet are cut off those parts that prevent it from being inserted into the pipe. In the center lid of the canister, a hole is made for the cable. A hole is drilled in the tube as well. Through the hole in the lid, the cable is pulled into the hole in the pipe. Here, it is desirable that the part of the cable that comes into contact with the walls of the pipe through the hole is insulated with something. put on cambric or work on electrical tape. During the operation of the product, this part will most of all be subject to mechanical stress and after some time the cable insulation may be damaged.
Step 4
A socket is connected to the cable. Then it is installed in the pipe. The trim plate completely hides the internal mount between the outlet and the handset.
Now you need to make a handle for twisting the cable inside the canister. The author made it from a small strip of metal by drilling holes at the ends. A spinning element made of a bolt, on which a PVC tube is mounted, is slightly larger in diameter than the bolt. The handle is attached to the plug. She, in turn, is glued into the pipe. For a more tight connection, it is fixed with self-tapping screws. The plug is connected.
And last, 5 step - This is a test of the resulting extension cord.
